My grade of our Draft Day 1.

Trading next year's first for Brown and a 4th was idiotic. Are you telling me we couldn't have given them our 59th pick packaged with maybe a 2nd next year for that? Dumb. The pick of Brown is growing on me, but I'm still not happy about the circumstances.

Speaking of the aforementioned 59th pick, being that we picked a guy who probably would have made it through the 3rd round with it, I would've gladly packaged it with some other picks to move up to get Brown because it was a wasted pick anyway.

Worst draft I can remember in recent years. Don't get me wrong, I think the Brown pick has potential, but for the price we paid... Whew...

Flame on.

I'm more pissed on passing up Sean Smith and taking Martin who, like you said, would probably be there in the 3rd. At the very least, trade back and get more picks if you're gonna take Martin anyway.

The Brown trade I kinda like. He could have easily been a pick in the 10-20 range, which is higher than what our 1st rounder will be next year (most likely) and we get him a year early.

Big difference Brown was drafted in the 2nd round. I dont blame them going for the value pick just the execution of it was wrong. Prouddiddy is right should have packaged other picks to move up not us next years first to move down. 2nd year in a row Hurney has thrown picks out the window to get back into a draft.

It doesn't matter about where they were drafted or where they were projected. If the front office is high on the guy and thinks he can be the player they want him to be, they must take him when they can and not risk someone else taking him.

See Jeff Otah of last year. We may have given up a good bit to get back into the draft and pick him up, but most would say it was a good trade. Without that specific player, I don't think our line and running game would have been so successful.

Execution wise Otah deal was crap too. Hurney gives up to much on his trades.

If JP is dealt and we get a 1st rounder back and some picks then the grade should change. Otherwise, to this point its accurate. That is way too steep of a price. We keep robbing Peter to pay Paul. Its going to catch up. I dont know too much about Martin (which is what I predicted, the Panthers taking a low profile CB with #59) but we do need a corner so its not a bad pick IMO.

Talent wise next yr we probably will be picking around 25 or up. So I really dont think the trading of our 1st was that big of a deal, I love the Brown pick he will be here for a long time and produce alot. I really didnt want either of the secondary players, I wanted the DT from Auburn, who went a few picks later.

Brown was our priority. Even with a 1st, we probably would've taken him. Just means we didn't have to spend us much. You and I may have handled it differently, but with the clock ticking and San Francisco no doubt trying to hardball our FO, this is the best they got done. I'll wait to see how it develops before casting it a glaring failure.

Sorry but they gave up a first round pick in next years draft for him. We didnt have a first this year package picks from this year dont screw yourself in a great draft next year.
