Bullying

Point of clarification-

I'm not advocating kids beat each other up or that fighting is the best way to solve anything.

However in the specific case of bullying, I in fact believe that proportional violence is the only solution. It’s the only thing the pack of jackals will respond to.

Epi....nowadays...they are looking at the verbal more than the physical

so your mercilessly teasing kids would probably get you in more trouble these days than the fight behind the school did those days!

Kids should be able to attend school without fear. I support a zero tolerance mindset. Because it happens doesn't make it right. Kids need to learn that as members of society they are expected to act within a civil framework.

I think there is a line between making fun and bullying. My friends and I made fun of each other all the time. But you can cross certain lines with (some) friends. And then again, there are lines you don't cross even when its your friend. We always considered it nothing is off limits, but that was never REALLY true.

We've been through bullying. For my son, it was physical. My daughter, it was words; spreading lies, being made fun of, setting her up to be humiliated, etc.

Tyler solved his by finally going batshit crazy on the guy and getting suspended for 3 days.

With Casey, OMG, let me just say middle school girls are the devil. It basically revolved around one certain girl. We've spent many an afternoon and night consoling my daughter. This girl really did a number on her. I had to hear my daughter say she just wanted to die several times. The mom was as bad as the daughter so no help there. We were to the point of putting Case in counseling. It stopped when Case finally started standing up for herself and developing more self esteem. But, that didn't happen until she hit a growth spurt, lost a bunch of weight, and ummm...developed.

I moved to US when I just turned 14. I came to class (9th grade) and the bullying started almost immediately. "You fuging commie", "Go back to you fuging country", "your mom is a bitch", "speak english" and much more in just my first 3 days of high school!!! I was boxing since I was 6 so yeah... On my 3rd day of school, I waited until the hallways were full of students. I beat the fug out that one cool kid that kept bullying me since day one. I almost broke my fist with his face. I got suspended for 10 days. When I came back, everyone wanted to be my friend and tho I was so cool... fuging high schoolers... I got suspended 7 times for fighting in high school (7 times I got caught). Almost got expelled from CMS. And I was the nice guy.

    • Oh he would absolutely flourish. It’s the panthers way. It’s no different with coaches. Sometimes they reach their expiration date, go somewhere else, and find new success.  Similarly to Burns, how long to wait for the light to finally turn on?  Market forces will demand a salary that the panthers can not responsibly match. Sliding him to guard will fit his skill set better, but he has played LT for 3 years. He will receive offers from other teams wanting to pay him LT money.  At guard, he won’t start with what they have paid Hunt and Lewis. Center then?? Dunno. Maybe? He will become a backup by default once they draft their stud LT. I doubt Dan just stands pat. That’s not his MO.  So where does this put him? Can you match what other teams will offer for a backup LT/guard? Do you dish out franchise LT $ on a guy who still needs significant improvement in pass protection. This team will be DOA in the playoffs with the very first team who has a formidable speed rusher. What if he has hit his ceiling in pass protection already and they sign him long term? It’s a big gamble either way.
    • We're in a great position to see just how big of a misstep it would be, having made so many ourselves
    • I didn't say I would have done it. I was just saying that I can see why some in the FO considered it. Everything was done to give Bryce weapons. Solidify the interior line thru FA. Get XL at WR in round 1 and then get the most talented RB in round 2. Take a TE in round 4, etc They were probably "assuming" he'd make a complete recovery during the 2024 season. I'm a skeptical person. I wouldn't have assumed he'd be ok in 2024. I personally would have taken another position in the 2nd for that very reason. But, if I were "influenced" to take him I would've argued to keep him off the field, especially seeing how things were going for us record wise. Conventional Wisdom says most backs don't get back to normal until two years after the ACL surgery. He was injured in Fall 2023. Having him suit up in 2025 would have been almost 2 years since the original injury. You have him for 3 year on low contract. If he balls out, you resign him for a couple of more years b/c he'd only have 3 years of tread on the tires. If he's ok but not great you let him walk.
