Any Word On What Hurney Is Going To Do With The Cap?

Gross already restructured. Smitty may restructure or extend, I'm hoping for the latter. We need to make sure that if he isn't retiring anytime soon, we keep him here. We should most definitely put injury insurance into the Beason and Davis contracts, just in case. Restructure Davis if it has not already been done, I don't recall if it has or not. Cut some dead weight in camp. We will be fine, don't get your tampons in a knot.

How in the hell can we put insurance clauses into Beasons contract?

Figure of speech, flamer. Means we put in a clause saying if his achilles gets injured again, we don't have to shell out all that dead money, thus freeing us to sign a mid-season replacement more easily. Happens a lot when a player has problems with certain injuries chroncally. We don't know what will happen with this injury, it's a serious injury.

We signed him to the largest interior LB contract ever last season. Why would he sign a new deal this year? It's foolish to even think it's a possibility.

Personally, should be done. Then again, I'm not GM. Don't call me a fool, I don't feel like starting a grudge today.

I am sure he will be more than willing to ammend the contract to accomodate the team... I think anyone that has ever been injured should do the same thing.

What does "personally, should be done" mean? Beason signed the deal that Hurney gave him, if we asked him to restructure he would laugh in our face.

I said it's foolish to think that Beason would agree to take on more risk by signing another contract, I didn't call you a fool.

Not saying new deal totally. Keep everything the way it is. Simply add a clause that says if he pops that achilles again, thus becoming a chronic problem, we don't sink millions and millions into dead cap. A risk must be admitted here, this is a serious injury and he is trying, like all athletes, to come back early. He's human like everyone else, these things take time to heal completely. I trust the staff to make sure he doesn't overdo it, but we've been trusting them to do that with TD for years.

Why would Beason, much less any NFL player sign that deal?

With TD he was in a contract year when he was first injured. He signed a friendly deal so he could stay with the Panthers, use their team doctors, and facilities, instead of being an out of work LB.

Beason is not the same, we paid him, there is tons of guaranteed money in place already, he has no incentive to sign a new deal unless the team is going to give him more money upfront than he would make now...essentially a pay raise.
