Goodbye Pep...

The Answer

Recommended Posts

Giving away our first rounder for Brown almost 100% solidifies that we already have a deal with Pep and another team, and we just had him wait to sign the tender after the draft to make sure we were able to get what we wanted.

I mean common sense says Charles Johnson is going to be a beast and Hilee Taylor is a lighter rawer poor mans Julius Peppers, so there was no reason to do that unless we are going to need someone to take his place?

What do you think?

I don't think it signifies that Pep is leaving at all.

I think Charles Johnson will come up big, but we'll still need someone else to take Pepper's place should he leave after the 2009 season. Given that Brown was expected by many to go in the middle of the first, the Panthers did what they had to do to get a hell of a defensive end in the second.

I could see where you're coming from, but why take the chance even letting Pep play for us, when he would be unmotivated and probably not play too well, but then again that would hurt him too, idk there's really no way to tell whats going on in Hurney's head haha.

It may mean that, or it may mean we just brought Brown in to get some experience in this year before becoming a starter next year when pep leaves. The FO may have told pep just play this year out and if you still do not want to be here next season you can go freely... Who knows

Having another pass rusher like Brown enables us to line Julius up at different spots on the field. Also Brown could easily be an upright situational rusher for us. Meeks defense is going to be predicated on getting to the QB...Johnson, Peppers, and Brown are all premier pass rushers. I'm excited for what this kid is going to bring...hes a great kid as well. Which is odd to say coming from FSU.

But there's the beauty of the selection: it's a good pick whether Peppers decides to leave or not.

If he holds out, which I really do not foresee, then we've hopefully got a replacement in Brown.

If Peppers plays and Charles Johnson plays, then Brown is brought in as a situational pass-rusher and eventually groomed to be Pepper's replacement.

I don't think this means Peppers is leaving anytime soon, it's just an insurance policy. The thought of Peppers and Brown rushing off the edges is a nightmare for any QB... over on NFL.com I've seen Brown compared to Freeney, Mathis and Ware.. not bad!
