Lets Take A Look Back At The Huddles Opinion On Drafting Cam Before The Draft

If you want the guy in this draft that would help our offense out most (especially year 1) its Newton. If he can even come close to the success on the ground he did in college he will help open up this running game. And his deep ball would be awesome in a down the field attacking O.

I have no real concerns about Talent level when it comes to Newton. What concerns me is his work ethic. I have no idea how much love he has for the game so I can not comment on that. I think it all boils down to how he does in interviews.

If you think he is going to be the guy first in last out every practice and will put in the time in the tape room then you take him and don't look back. If not pass on him and select your top D prospect. For me its MD or Quinn, Fairley to me he is just too much of a risk for not enough reward (I really don't get all the hype he seems to take advantage of mistakes alot which isn't necessarily a bad thing). Green is not going to be our pick (barring a Smith/WR trade) you can quote me on that.

And thats what I said. Hail to the king baby (Jason Cambell trade and all)

I was totally wrong. I based my fear of him on the media who were all over him. I did not sit in on an interview, however, and my concerns were between his ears.

I would be warned about celebrating too early, however. One season down, 14 to go. I hope he continues to prove me wrong.

Always thought Cam was worth the dice roll. The QB situation was so bad that nothing short of Jesus in pads would have made us competitive, and he was the only one with that potential.

Also the "suck two years in a row for Luck" idea was the dumbest I had ever heard.

And why was that?

Shouldn't we be concern about ALL these QBs who haven't yet proven themselves on an NFL level? Why are we more concern about some and not all?

Yeah I'm on the Cam bandwagon. Being a UF fan I saw a lot of him watching the SEC. While he is known for his athleticism and running ability, he really is more than just one dimensional. He is over looked as a passer IMO. People are gonna have different opinions on him and his future as a NFL QB but I see him being successful.

I would much rather have Cam Newton throwing to Gettis and LaFell than Clausen throwing to AJ Green and company. Clausen isn't the answer and I don't know if I trust a 3rd round pick or lower on a QB. JR has already stated that he won't look to sign a FA. I just don't trust Clausen as our QB, plain and simple.

I wanted Cam but have to respect other's people opinions on him, albeit some off-base . Some of them I couldn't understand but we have all been wrong on certain kids.

A year later it's easy to point and laugh and call people stupid, but given what most knew about him at the time doubting Cam was not unreasonable. There has never been a prospect quite like him, so he was not easy to evaluate. Through foresight (or more likely luck) our front office was able to see something different from most people; including many very intelligent people who get paid lots of money to evaluate prospects for a living.

Please remember that a QB career is not made from a rookie season, see Mark Sanchez.

I was very surprised about Cams rookie season, pleasantly. I would have wanted Dareus also. But don't throw JOAT over the bridge just yet. Hopefully, there will be no sophomore slump.

I take JOAT's opinion on anything with a grain of salt because it's usually way off base and wrong. Take a look at this gem:

Allow me to summarize: There are no QB's worth the 1st pick.

We're not drafting Newton or any other QB first, even if we do manage to trade down.

Not happening.

Defense will be the pick. That pick will also fill a major need.

That pick will be Fairley.

Newton, to many, isn't even the best QB in the draft so rule him out. Plus, we can't afford for him to sit and learn while transitioning from RB to QB.

Gabbert isn't 1st pick material and would still require time on the bench to develop.

I don't think any QB's go in the top 5, maybe top 10.

Bradford took a lot of snaps from center at OU, was used to 3-5-7 step drops, reading D's pre-snap and then going through his progressions. He was an accurate, polished passer who biggest question was his rehab and subsequent durability.

No other QB in this draft can say this. Rams knew there was a chance he would start.

We drafted a QB last year, we won't do it again this year.

I haven't seen what you're talking about.

What I do see is rational thoughts on why none of these QB's are worth the first pick. No one is saying they can't/won't succeed in time, but the Panthers need to get better now, not 2-3 years down the road.

Take someone like Fairley, Green, Peterson or Bowers and improve this year, or reach for a QB and hope they learn the NFL game in a couple seasons.

The Luck love is well deserved, he's shown that he can already do everything- no one else has.

So about those rational thoughts...

What's funny is he gets mad for getting called out at the end lol.
