where were all these rabid and passionate hornets fans the last two years they were in Charlotte?

anyone that was there for the shameful exit should never want to be associated with that mess.

yall could have ponied up the $ for shinn to build a new arena and saved the hornets yourselves.

They werent into NBA basketball at that time. It was "the NBA is worse than college bball" and "we voted no to the arena and he built it anyway". Now folks want to come in the 9th inning and change the game up. I keep hearing attendance record, selling more snapback hats, yada, yada. But the Hornets nostalgists never explain how a rebrand to a pitiful Hornets franchise is gonna make our players play better and our front office manage wiser? How is our team dressed in purple and teal going to make MJ a better owner? Can the Hornets nostalgists give an example of a successful NBA rebrand of a team that had made a playoff and didnt move over the last 50 years?

That's because the Hornets were a good team 20 years ago....something that your great Bob Johnson or Michael Jordan have yet to do. The Bobcats have sucked every year.

Hornets...14 years in Charlotte and 7 playoff appearances

Bobcats...8 years in Charlotte and 1 playoff appearance...and now the worst team in maybe the history of the NBA

This team has screwed up every trade, draft pick, etc that they have had. Combo of Johnson/Jordan has proven to be pathetic at best.

This.

No one!

Fans of the re-brand realize it won't help improve the play on or off the court, we would just rather wear our teal and purple again, because that was, and in many ways still is Charlotte's team.

The Bobcats never took off because 1. They haven't won and 2. In their infancy, the time when they could best make their impression on the Charlotte market to show that this was not a Shinn-esque regime, they failed to do so.

If rumors are true, there's a good chance the Hornets brand could be available. Why not take the opportunity, after what will be far and away the worst season in franchise history, to truly have a fresh start?

The inception of the Bobcats as an organization could not have been handled any more poorly than it was. From the stadium to CSET to the draft picks and ticket pricing, it was an F across the board. There is no loyalty to that team or that name in this city. It would mean nothing to scrap that name completely and any rid the city of any semblence of the total clusterfvck that was Bob Johnson and the first 6 years of this franchise.

Just from a marketing standpoint it would be a boon to bring the Hornets name back. That's reason enough alone.

You got it backwards Husker, the city didnt connect with the Hornets at all. Giving a local guy a franchise was a mistake that he and his fans blew. The NBA will never allow that much local control of a team because it leads to what ultimately happened, a failed franchise that relocates. There is no remnants of them at all locally, their stadium is gone, hell no one even wants to buy the franchise. Charlotte is fully behind the Bobcats and has been for 8 years. The only people who think the Hornets were great are whine and cheesers and people who casually follow the NBA. No one who actually lives in Charlotte city limits that "didnt give up on the NBA" when the Hornets got ran out of town thinks theyre the end all be all. Bob Johnson will be associated with saving Charlotteans financially for a long time. Dudes say the Bobs dont work, but they stay on this Bobcat board and stay at Bobcat games. Your dollars and attention help, so thank you.

Trading Kobe for Vlade is worse than any move the Bobs made.

 ?!?

Wait a minute...I get it! It's performance art!!! The King has played as all...this persona is some brilliant thinker's very own postmodern, satirical jab at the current state of the franchise! Bravo, sir...bravo ;)

Everything I said is true. The Hornets even with a local owner, local logo theme, and local following still failed in Charlotte. They're the only franchise to be ran out of town. Had they suceeded there'd be no need for a rebrand, and this forum would be named Charlotte Hornets.

It failed because they had a sh*t owner just like the Bobcats do now. End of fuggin story. That's it.

The last decent team had Mashburn and that whole crew. You want to make it seem so different than it actually was.

All of this talk about each organization doesn't change the fact that people simply like a name better regardless of how you want to spin this. The Bobcats fuggin suck dockey d*ck and so does their name. There the laughing stock of the NBA. Before, Charlotte had a franchise that started off great and entered a downward spiral due to $$ and an owner wanting an arena after his whole sexual harrasment sh*t. The Bobcats have been flat since before day 1. The NBA rushed a team here too quickly thinking people would embrace it no matter what. They were dead wrong along with the additional egotistical Bob Johnson. Shinn, Bob, and Jordan are all sh*t. You're simply trying to debate who is the least sh*tastic.

And that's really it buddy. People just want that name back because no one wants to be named the bobcats. You can come back with the "I don't care about a name just winning". But of course everyone regardless wants a winning franchise, but it'd be an extra plus to actually have something not so damn middle school AAU to root for. Everything about the current organization and the town is lame. I personally don't think the NBA should be in Charlotte period.

Charlotte is just not a good sports town. A transplant banking city with no character...just nostalgia and decent modern architecture. They tore down all the old architecture, character, and culture with BOFA and Wachovia

Bobcats are fine in the city of Charlotte. And will stick around a lot longer than the Hornets did. I dont know why you guys are so envious. Oh yes I do. The Bobs off top got 2 things done the Hornets never could

A) Get an uptown arena built thats 20 times more luxurious than The Hive. TWC Arena's location and style shits on The old coliseum that sucked so bad the city paid to blow it to kingdom come.

B) Get Jordan involved in ownership. Hornets fans dreamed of MJ being involved in Charlotte but never pulled it off.

Hornets were and always will be a farm team for the big markets. No one stays a Hornet for life. Ask cp3, Zo, B. Davis, the list goes on. The stars hated it here, they see the franchise holds you back, and you guys speak like thats something special. I think the fact Hornets nostalgists now want to literally be the Bobcats says a lot. Notice the Bobcats arent trying to be the Hornets.
