Before You Judge Campbell....

The problem with Campbell is mental. He has a processing disorder. I imagine, with the turmoil and turnover, position changes, etc. in Oakland that he was one lost puppy. He needs to be taught and mentored. He needs to make minimal pre-snap and during play. One draft expert (2010-do not have name) said he would need to be told what to do on every play. Here is an excerpt from a 2010 article shared on another site:

"Over the last few weeks, the Journal Sentinel polled 21 personnel people, asking them who among the top offensive linemen had the best chance to bust. The fact that Campbell led with 12 votes (Anthony Davis had four votes and five others, including Iupati, each had one) can be attributed to a variety of reasons, but mental acuity was cited by four scouts.

"It's the mental that will get him," said one personnel director who has been in interviews with Campbell. "When he's talking he's not a quick thinker. He's a slow process, a very slow process guy. Somebody will have to tell him what to do all the time."

Another evaluator said Campbell had a "neurological slowness that's extremely scary." ... "He might be the most phenomenal physical specimen I've ever seen," one longtime scout said. "But he can't conceptualize."

You hope. Did you say the same kind of thing for Clausen? Charles Godfrey missed a lot of tackles due to bad angles and poor technique.

This was another victim of position change - we switched Clausen from college QB to pro QB. He was able to figure out the clipboard part but any skills between the lines failed to translate.

The raiders played him at RG in 2010 and played him at RT in 2011. So really, he has one year pro experience at RT.

Seems like that could have contributed to his not catching on very quickly.

I also read where they were using the Zone Blocking scheme and he didn't fair to well in it.

If we move him to RT I surely hope this means the end of Otah. As much as I like Otah. He hasn't played enough for the money we have paid him

How many years has Godfrey played S now? 4 or 5? When is that light going to come on? Godfrey looked bad because the Dline was bad--your excuse. Does that not work with a QB who had 3 reserves on the Oline and 2 rookie WRs? How many years did it take before you wrote Clausen off? You want to give Godfrey 5 years to learn S, I will bet you wrote Clausen off after 5 games. I think you are putting too much into the position change thing. By the way, switching from college CB to pro S is not as difficult as switching from College QB to pro QB. You would be a bit less impressed with Godfrey if your eye focused on him every play. He actually had a much lower S rating that Martin this year. The link has been posted many times on here--not gonna find it for you.

<quote=CRA>Charles Godfrey to Saftey.

Oh wait, people think that worked....</quote>

Charles Godfrey is a decent NFL safety who has suffered from poor defensive line play, cornerback play and the sudden regression of Sherrod Martin
