Just when I was thinking the Julius Peppers saga was over and the defensive end and the Carolina Panthers would live happily ever after, they might not.

The Panthers, who've been letting Peppers and his agent seemingly steer the events of the offseason, are behind the wheel again. By trading their 2010 first-round pick to San Francisco to get Florida State defensive end Everette Brown in the second round (43rd overall) the Panthers now appear to have the upper hand.

Brown wasn't drafted to replace Tyler Brayton or Charles Johnson. He was drafted to replace Peppers, whether it's now or in a year. That's going to play out in the slow, deliberate manner coach John Fox and Marty Hurney like to do business.

Here we go again.
