Yeah it was a smart move by Payton but it is also a smart move by the Saints Org. Look, they're not going to fire Payton next year regardless of wins or loses. Who ever is the head man this year, Payton will be back. You can't just promote the DC (Spags)he's kind of an outsider as well + he was terrible as the Rams coach. Carmichael the (OC) is too inexperienced to be the head man, especially in this situation. You guys are acting like Parcells will reform the offense and bench Jimmy Graham lol.

Parcells is an old stubborn man he does what he wants.....he just doesnt fit what NO needs. But I ain't complaining....I welcome it

Payton wanted his suspended Lb coach to be the guy......if they excelled without Payton the guy doesn't have the resume that you could wash your hands of Payton. If the OC or DC stepped in and had success........why do you need to bring back a liar and guy the league hates? Payton wanted a guy in place that regardless of the Saints success that the owner would have to have him back.

Your theory doesn't hold water, Joe Vitt is the LB coach and the ASSISTANT COACH. Vitt and Carmichael have both been looked at and considered for HC jobs so the idea Payton is using low caliber replacement to guarantee his spot is just silly, Payton job is secure even if the Saints go undefeated and win SB with someone else. Further, Payton has spent the last two weeks writing out lists and orders for the entire season and now has an extra week or two of planning to set up more details as well as was told by Goodell he can have "reasonable" contact with staff during the season.

Bottom line, regardless of fill in, Payton will have a season long to do list for team as well as contact with staff and the interim HC will be more of an office manager. Even if it is Parcells, this isn't like the past when Parcells is taking over a losing team that needs to change philosophy, he's taking over a SB contender with Carmichael and Brees firmly in control of Offense, and Spagnola firmly in control of defense.

      I don't think Rodgers but probably not for the political reasons I bet a lot of posters are motivated by. I just think he is not the QB for the Panthers, at all.

      It wasn't great but  the 2022 NYG won 9 of 16 games plus a playoff game. He had a 92.5 passer rating. 15 pass TDs 3200 yards, 7 rushing TD, 700 yards 6 fumbles 3 lost.  His first season he had 18 fumbles lost 11. Wow.  Anyhow he had problems in 2023 with injuries and didn't win poo before tearing his ACL. This year, no Barkley, not good, but you know.... these ACLs take a while and it was right and he throws right so pushes off of it.  I agree it doesn't hurt to let that guy compete cheap. You don't hand him the job like with Bryce or NYG with him.  When I look at what we have been saddled with, he doesn't look worse and has the physical advantage. So I don't get the umbrage given our situation. This "No we won't settle for anything less that the best" attitude and then taking Bryce Young was pathetic and I think that attitude brought us to where we are. That's where that poo gets you. Away from Mayfield, away from Darnold, even away from PJ - just to replace them with an inferior PJ.  At the same time I am not really advocating for the guy just looking at it objectively. It could be another guy with the same story. And yes the odds of him getting it are low but the numbers and performance from 2022 are for sure better than we see with Bryce even after a season of major propping him up with better players around him. Take a look don't take a look he fails or he doesn't fail...   to instead sit here and be happier with what we have is bullshit.
