Would You Be Mad At Micheal Floyd At 9?

All the teams around us could very easily draft Floyd. Miami could replace B-Marsh with him. Buffalo could pair him with Stevie Johnson. Jacksonville could also draft him to give Gabbert some help. These examples show he is not a reach at our pick.

Therefore the arguement could be made that he is a reach for us. My counterpoint to that is that Lafell and Gettis will never be a top WR in the league. IMO both are number 2's. Put Floyd across from Smith and things would really open up for Cam. If you look at the WR's Chud used in San Diego you have to see how Floyd fits here. Would i be MAD? Nope. Would i rather see Coples, Kirkpatrick, Gilmore, or Poe? Sure.

Ok I know some people might think drafting floyd at 9 would be the wrong way to go. But in my opinion we need another top WR to go along with Smith. Smith is 33 now and has a few years left. Yes we have Lafell and Gettis. But Gettis has yet to prove he can be a top WR for this team and Lafell is solid, but not great enough to replace Smith in a few years. The time for getting a top WR in the draft is this year. Time to start grooming the next Steve Smith for this team to help out Cam for years to come.

I wouldn't mind it all, actually. And for the people that think that wanting Floyd means that I don't like LaFell or Gettis, they're actually two of my favorite players on our team and I believe will have a very important part of our offense.

But when you have a guy like Floyd who weighs in at 6'3 225lbs, and runs a low 4.4, you can't ignore the fact that he is going to be a great #1 receiver some day. And with that being said, what would be the negatives of drafting a guy that can step in right away and be a huge receiving weapon and then eventually be able to take over that #1 spot from Smith, then have LaFell and Gettis compliment him for the rest of his carer?

If you want to call Floyd a reach, you might as well throw Poe, Brockers, Cox, Jenkins, and Decastro under that category too.

Thinking that a 33-year old 5' 8.5" WR can be a solid #1 is wishful thinking. Want to see how good Cam can really be? Give him a Floyd or Hill out there.

People said a 32 year old Smith coming off one of his worst year can't be a #1; 1,400 yards and 7 TD's says otherwise. Welker came off an ACL injury and had 1,600 yards and 9 TD's.

I'd be pretty upset. I'm not even sure he is top 10 talent. While it might be a good idea to add depth to the WR position either this year or next year, I definitely wouldn't do it in the 1st round. That is unless Blackmon falls then I would have to consider him hard.

Sorensen did say in that article that panthers were gonna take AJ Green last year if they didnt want Cam. So they might be in that mind frame again since we have a QB now so i wouldnt be mad at the pick. I will say that some people are underrating a young star QB having a stable number 1 target to throw to for there career, its more important than people think. but if they feel a offensive player would be best available at 9 i wouldnt get to upset.

Aj Green is a once in a decade talent. Blackmon nor Floyd are. There will be a Blackmon/Floyd in next year draft and the draft after that and so on.

AJ Green is not a once in a decade talent. Just another very good talented wr who is gonna make a lot of pro bowls.
