Everette Brown DE FSU

I think he will be, and that's part of the reason why I see Peppers traded as soon as he signs his tender.

if Pep is traded, even if Brown comes in and fills his shoes right away with 15 sacks and no drop-off, we're still right where we were last season, ranked 18th on defense.

i would prefer Peppers and Brown starting.

I love this pick. As I was watching the draft and saw him keep falling, I was praying we would make a move to get him. I saw this kid play at Beddingfield high school here in Wilson. He was a beast his senior year. He also played basketball. Very aggressive high motor type player. We wont have to worry about him being motivated during games like another DE playing for the Panthers that also happens to be from around the Wilson area.

What luck, a Carolina-native speed rusher falls right into our laps.

As for giving up next year's first rounder, can't say how it's going to work out until at least next year when we can gauge whether Brown's a success and how our schedule pans out for us.

I think we are taking a risk but its obvious Fox and Co are on the hot seat and are in win now mode.

Same folks, different draft. They were in the same boat last season and did the same kind of trade. If they're going to go out, they're going out without a first round pick for next season.

Still though, it's one of those moves we'll appreciate having done once Brown puts on the Panthers gear.

Watched some of his highlights...

Favorite pass rush technique seems to be the dip and rip. he uses it a lot (and does it well).

Also loves to use the spin moves though and is even capable of throwing a good club.

Has a great first step and good inside move technique.

Knows how to use his arms to tomahawk the QB's arms as he's going for the sack and strip (Peppers is good at that too).

Decent at diagnosing where the play is going.

Likes to try to anticipate the snap count (ala Kris Jenkins).

You can see his motor revving even when he's in his stance. Just watch his feet.

Tackling could use some work, and likely needs more functional strength at the pro level. Character from hearing him speak makes him sound very coachable though.

Definite positives. Very raw though and will need polishing. Hope it gets done in such a way that his innate positives translate well into the pro game.

Funny you say that.

1) When will you start working as a scout?

and

2) Did you notice most every draft group compares him to freeny?

I might not be a scout but at least I have the decency to spell the man's name correctly.

Loved the pick, He should come in right away and start. Brayton is a backup if Peppers plays this season and probably even if he is traded as well.

With peppers our starting de's are Pep and Brown, without it's going to be Johnson and Brown.

Yep, hopefully we upgrade at DT too.

    • I'd give it a C mainly because of Brooks.  If we just didn't have a 2nd I'd argue B to B+ tbh. Brooks was a bad gamble, tho one that could still pay off long term. Yes XL only has 400 yards but... Look who is throwing him the ball. And I think he isn't a "true #1" but he's been able to consistently get open. Hands definitely need to be cleaned up.  But he should end the year with 500-600 yards. Like you said - Sanders looks great.  Get him a better QB / more time with a QB and I think he's gonna impress. We added a couple rotational players on D that have both made plays and show promise for the future from later rounds. So I'd say, Brooks really hurts this drafts grade. It'll be interesting to see how it progresses over the next 3 years. I've overall really liked Morgan's FA acquisitions, so...
    • Oh he would absolutely flourish. It’s the panthers way. It’s no different with coaches. Sometimes they reach their expiration date, go somewhere else, and find new success.  Similarly to Burns, how long to wait for the light to finally turn on?  Market forces will demand a salary that the panthers can not responsibly match. Sliding him to guard will fit his skill set better, but he has played LT for 3 years. He will receive offers from other teams wanting to pay him LT money.  At guard, he won’t start with what they have paid Hunt and Lewis. Center then?? Dunno. Maybe? He will become a backup by default once they draft their stud LT. I doubt Dan just stands pat. That’s not his MO.  So where does this put him? Can you match what other teams will offer for a backup LT/guard? Do you dish out franchise LT $ on a guy who still needs significant improvement in pass protection. This team will be DOA in the playoffs with the very first team who has a formidable speed rusher. What if he has hit his ceiling in pass protection already and they sign him long term? It’s a big gamble either way.
    • We're in a great position to see just how big of a misstep it would be, having made so many ourselves
