Eagles Have 16.1 Million In Cap Space!

What? I was pretty sure this whole NFL thing was set up to win the superbowl and the Eagles haven't done that, so I could care less if they have cap room.

Yea just look at all of our Lombardi trophies as well...point is everyone here would be extremely happy if we signed the players the Eagles have and still have plenty of cap room. We have better coaches than the Eagles. Just like everybody would be happy if we had as many draft picks as the Patriots even though they dont really have much success picking players.

This isn't the point. That's on scouting and/or coaching. The point is being able to sign good to great players to weak areas of the team and still be in great shape cap wise.

Don't worry, I'm fully aware of the point here...but until we see what shakes out in the Draft, finalize any remaining FA moves, and get to see the final trim of the roster I'm not going to sit around and bitch about "the cap". It's an ever changing number that gets manipulated as the management accommodates the needs expressed by the coaches. Ron hasn't even started getting the team ready through a full off-season and in my mind this is a brand new regime. I'll wait on participating in the hand-wringing over this for now...carry on.

Yeah, it's awesome they have so much cap room at a point in the offseason where it's not really useful. They probably shouldn't use any of it and should roll it over to next year as they have back loaded contracts like Trent Cole, Desean Jackson, Michael Vick, and still need to re-sign maybe their best offensive player (Lesean McCoy).

It's the salary cap. If their not paying for their spending spree this year, it's coming up next year and into the future. I wish Hurney would do it with our contracts just so people could go "OMG, 8 million in cap room. Our front office is really good".

We finally have a franchise QB, the first solid candidate in our short history and a new coaching staff for the first time in around a decade...I'm not looking back and lamenting about how Fox never got us over the hump.

As far as being jealous of the "Dream Team"? Did you see them play last year?

This is a team with Asante Samuel (one of the highest paid corner), Michael Vick (100 million dollar QB), Jason Peters (one of the top LTs), Asomugha (60 million dollar contract), Jason Babin, Demeco Ryans, DRC, Desean Jackson. Why do they have this much cap room??? Because they don't value the guys that they draft (family) as more important than any other player. They don't make a 50/50 running back the highest-paid back in the league when there is a 25 year old stud already on the team. They use this idea called LEVERAGE to build a team instead of overpaying for players when there isn't even any freaking competition to sign the player in the first place.

The Steelers are ready to let Mike Wallace walk if he doesn't come down on his price. They let Porter walk, they replaced probably the most beloved player of all time (Hines Ward) without even a second thought. That is what winning organizations do...they don't start treating these guys like they are irreplaceable if it means it's going to get in the way of winning. They don't pay a running back 6 million bucks a year to rush for 800 yards and 7 TDs. They don't pay a QB 40 million bucks when he just imploded in the playoffs. Hurney's an idiot. Our expectations for a GM are low because we look at teams like the Raiders, Browns, and Jaguars and say it could be worse but the fact is it could be a hell of a lot better.

great post

Jesus Christ. How many times do I got to say it comes down to coaching?

I thought Andy should have been let go a couple years ago...I still don't think the "Dream Team" failed to win it all because of him. There are lots of issues they need to address.

Andy Reid has final say in all personnel matters, so if you wished we had such a great talent evaluator/GM, but not the idiotic coach/coaching staff, you're kind of missing the point.

Uh, no. You actually just said the point. You're the one that can't seperate the two, but whatever makes you feel like you got the best side of the arguement.

Cool, I guess.

I don't mind the rewarding of players with a vote of confidence (paying them). I honestly don't think we would be winning anymore if we paid them any less. I also doubt we would do much with that saved cap room either.
