Coach Rivera Says "adding Lb Depth Important"

For me, these are the acceptable picks at #9. Not including the ones I hope drop to us, Claiborne or Blackmon.

DeCastro, Kuechley, Cox, Coples, Floyd (yes, he's worth a 9 to me.), and Kirkpatrick (barely).

If we pick him, so be it.

LOL @ an offensive guard in the top 10

Rivera has said over and over that he DOES NOT view DT as an area of need.

I remember one comment along the lines of "don't assume that we see upgrading DT as our top priority". Assuming he doesn't view this as a need is making a big jump. We obviously have significant interest based on who we have brought in.

Yup, he's basically saying we have other holes just as big or even bigger than the ones at DT.

LB's that fit a 4-3 defense near the #40 pick:

#1 Zach Brown is now projected a high 2nd rounder.. would fit perfectly, there is a small chance he is there.

#2 Donta Hightower - MLB thumper.. doubt we take a MLB this early (for depth)

#3 Lavonte David - Could play safety at the next level, undersized

#4 Bobby Wagner - Utah St LB, that has been nothing but rising ever since the senior bowl.. and great production in college

#5 Bruce Irvin - Has the athletiscm to play in both 43 and 34 defenses.. not much experience in coverage, but has all tools

LBs near our 4th round pick:

#1 Nigel Bradham - FSU -

#2 Sean Spence - Miami - Undersized

#3 Josh Kaddu - Oregon

#4 Demorrio Davis - Arkansas State

#5 Keenan Robinson - Texas - Athletic freak.. reminds me of Keith Bullock with long arms

#6 Mychal Kendricks - Cal

the guy in bold is a projected 2nd rounder.

You can throw thinking like that out the window.

With the new rookie salalry scale, you will see positions that were typically not taken in the top10 (guards, DB's, etc) definitely being taken. In the past, Top 10 picks required such a huge contract, that typically only QB's, DE's, LT's, etc were deemed worth that much money and risk. Now....not so much.

Not a bad view on that, but I wasn't really concerned over the salary.

I was thinking more along the lines of the position not being worth the high pick. Is the least important position on the offensive line worth using a first round pick, let alone a top 10 pick?

Let's not forget our defense is falling apart either. Wouldn't we rather get a player that can have an immediate impact on the other side of the ball? What if Decastro does make an impact? What does that fix?
