journalism was already dying, at least in the shape that we knew it in the past. i don't take your point, though. this is just bite-sized news. as you use it, you learn how it's useful. nothing that millions and millions of people use everyday for tons of different reasons should be written off cavalierly.

It has it's place I guess but I don't understand judging a writer/journalist on how much they Tweet. (Not defending Person really). I'd hope for more of a journalist than just having ears, a smartphone and fingers to type with.

I just find it odd that we now have threads which are just lists of Tweets.....or the TV news or sports casts now report on whats happening on Twitter....it's just weird. I digress, carry on

For this kind of news, tweeting should be mandatory for the journalist. If you're not getting the news out right away, someone else is. That's why us Panther fans are following Aaron Wilson, a Raven's insider, instead of Joe Person, the lone Panther beat writer.

times are changing and with the advancing pace of technology the way information is gathered and disseminated is constantly evolving. i can appreciate the philosophy of responsible journalism and wishing to gather facts before posting something the second it becomes news, but in the sports world stuff is usually pretty cut and dried. joe person needs to step his game up and start releasing information promptly. he is routinely outpaced and in today's fingertip society that just doesn't cut it.

Personally i don't care to know it the second it happens. It would be perfectly fine for me to find out within a day but have some substance and credibility to it. I'm getting old :(

That's why in my previous post I said, "For this kind of news ...", An article on the corruption of someone in the government, take your time, follow Payton's advice on "getting your ducks in a row" before publishing, and make a well written piece. Quotes from a HC of a NFL team, tweet as soon as you got it.

But, IMO, there isn't anything in a single one of those tweets that is interesting that it needs to be tweeted sentence by sentence. Nothing. It might be interesting to read as a full quote though.....Not being able to Twitter that seems to make this kind of stuff silly to attempt to.

He likes Newton

Newton is good

Newton helped by QB coaches

Newton a real competitor.

just seems a silly way to report

I look at like this, I wouldn't want to read an article dissecting the little bit of info that came out of those tweets. However, I don't mind those tweets showing up on my time line and reading over them. I think the hang up we might have here is calling it "News". It's not really news, it's lil bit of info that some people like reading. But it is something that a beat writer should be doing to keep their name being relevant with the fan base of said team. Especially in the off season when football addicts are craving any football "news" they can get.
