Need Tips For Workouts To Drop Some More Weight. Help Please!

Ivan The Awesome

Recommended Posts

Hey guys, I'm kinda new to the whole working out thing. First and foremost I'd like to say that I used to weigh 300 pounds about 5 months. Ago, due to some radical events, I lost a lot of weight. I currently weigh 250 pounds. I lost 50 pounds. I'm currently eating better and I do push ups and burpees every other day and some Yoga. Seems I'm kinda stuck though, not loosing anymore weight, but not gaining. I would like to know if there are other work outs that I could do that will get my mid section toner. I still have a tire around my waist and I'd like to get rid of it. Someone told me to do more cardio workouts.

Ideally I'd like to get down another 50 pounds to end up at 200 even. I'm 6' tall, so I don't know how much I should actually weigh. I'm guessing in or around 200 pounds.

What suggestions do y'all have? Also are there any eating habits that would promote my metabolism to boost? Any help would be appreciated! Thanks!

You can get into a lot of details, but real simply there are two keys to toning up:

1. Strength training is the quickest way to lose fat and tone up as you burn calories during the workout and after when your body is repairing muscle tissue.

2. Diet is 80% of health.

Whatever exercise you do that constantly pushes you and focuses on building muscle and whatever diet that has you focusing on taking in lean meats, veggies and fruits will work.

The trick is finding something that does all this that you enjoy and will keep at.

Ps: body fat % is a better indicator of health than weight.

Delhommey nailed what I had to say; I was told a long time ago that 80% of weight loss happens in the kitchen, not the gym. It's always been a truth (for me at least) in practice as well. To add to this, reducing starchy foods will tend to help as well (potato, pasta, rice, bread, etc...) A calorie isn't just a calorie, it does matter what it comes from... basically, everything Delhommey said, I agree with.

The above basically covered it. Diet is so much more important than exercise. Not just cutting calories, but the right nutrition. Cardio is decent, but if you want to get in shape then strength training is the way to go. Major time lifting isn't even necessary, regular calistenics are enough for most. Do some research on google, you'll find plenty circuit exercises that will work both your muscles and your heart if you don't take too many breaks.

Obviously, diet is important. Eat less (gradually step down so you don't feel too drained) and eat better (less processed food, more organic. Lots of fruits and veggies. Less meat and bread). As far as workouts go, lift weights, but not strength training. Aim more for cardio and muscular endurance first to drop the weight. Do 3 sets of 10 on everything with lower weight, and super-set when you can (i super-set a lot with push ups or pull ups). Do a fair amount of running, biking, and elliptical use. If you do all this, you will shed pounds quickly. Also, swim. Relaxing and a great workout that people often forget.

Doctors want your BMI between 20 and 25%. According to charts like this one you should be between 145 and 185.

I recently dropped 25 pounds to get into the right range with the help of the weight watchers program. My wife joined, and I basically just followed along with what she ate rather than paying for another membership. I did it pretty much with all diet. My only exercise was stuff like yard work and walking the dogs.

Good luck.

Will burn your belly fat much faster. MUCH MUCH faster. Wear it every time you doing cardio.

lol...wtf..seriously??? Do you use it?? I can't believe the amount of 5 star review on that thing

As far as dropping more weight..I agree with everything said here..though I would increase your cardio time.. your heart rate needs to be raised consistently for at least 20 to 30 min to burn enough calories to get to where you want to be

I got tired of going to the gym so I started running..funny what not being a fatty mcbutterpants will allow you do...not have shin splints when you run!!!

I signed up for my first 5k even!

Running melts weight off. Do that plus strength training and with a sensible diet you should be good to go.

Congrats on the 5K mpf. I ran one St. Pattys day, was pissed at my time, so I'm doing another at the end of April. Starred a 4 week training program to get faster!

I really want a pair of Merrell's barefoot running shoes...I'd like to break them in here soon so I can get used to them

Hey were you the one wanting to work out your bum but not do a bunch of squats? If so I found the exercise High and Tight from Brazil Butt Lift. It's amazing and easy on the knees.

BMI is pointless. It doesn't take muscle mass into account. Body fat % is much more accurate. By BMI, I've been "obese" since my junior year of high school. I have never had more than 15% body fat.
