Really? I heard him say 2-3 times this season how he thinks he has a few years left in the tank to play at a professional level. Also, last year he wanted a trade and admitted to asking for one. Seems kind of far off from someone planning to retire two years later. Smitty said he's 'all in' which to me means he is here until the end. Hopefully the panthers will keep him until the very end. He would be a true panther elite who was drafted by us and played here his whole career.

So yea I would be surprised.

Our #1 for teh next 3 years? I don't know about that. Defienetley a #2, which would help him too. Hurney needs to get his ass a WR and DT for christs sakes he's wasted enough picks on them. I don't like to bet on Gettis because he's a late round pick.

Really? Like I didn't know he wanted a trade, etc. He came out and said he was so close to retiring last year bc of his wife's health. What do you think is more important to him, his wife or a few years of football? I never said he was, I said don't be surprise.

Since then he has mentioned Donald Driver as well....as the the type player whose career he hopes he can follow. I don't think Smitty is thinking about being a #1 in this league for years to come.

Not much of a fix. I have high hopes for him as the next Panther fan that Gettis can be special but realistically he is a complete unknown. His body of work on the NFL level before he was injured was spotty. Throw in the injury and you got a real chance of being what Gantt calls JAG.

.... LaFell and Gettis don't strike me as #1 WR's... #2's all day.... but we would have to draft a #1 this year in order for it to play out the way you say.

His wife is fine now, they thought she had lupus and she didn't. That's why he returned this season(for the most part) he was gonna move closer to her family and retire. He's now said he wants to remain a Panther and retire as one.
