The FO's wheels are turning.

Like many of us, I am trying to read the tea leaves in order to get some whiff of insight into the minds of our FO.

Now, they haven't given us much, but we do know that they have entertained the idea of J.P. Losman and Derrick Burgess. And there have been some weaker speculation about Pat White. I am thinking that this definitely means that they are looking towards the long term future in regards to the necessity of a QB, and that Jake will be our starter for a maximum of two more years (which makes his new extension exactly what it is: a 2009 cap move). Moreover, their interest in Burgess means that all their public intimations about keeping Pep are a big smokescreen for an imminent deal that will see Pep out of Carolina very soon.

Our FO has made very smart personnel decisions and is not above surprises. This year's draft will be no different. They are doing the things that a lot of us are whining about, which is looking past Delhomme and Pep. Happy Birthday and Merry Christmas! By the end of the weekend, we will all be pleasantly surprised.

I questiont he length on Jakes contract but come draft day I trust them.

I started questioning it too but if you look at the guaranteed money...20 million. We could get out of it (if he doesn't earn a bunch of incentives) paying him 4 million bucks spread over the next 5 years...Not bad for a starting QB that won 12 games last year.

The contract is back loaded, I'm 95% sure we won't keep him for all of the 5 years, unless he like get surgery on both of his arms into high quality composite metals, Jax Delhomme.

I hope that is the case, but I don't see us dealing him today. It's my understanding that we can't trade Peppers until he signs his tender. Since he has seemed reluctant to do so unless we trade him to one of the 4 teams he wants, I'm gonna go out on a limb and say that I have little to no respect left for the man. Greed is a pain in the ass.
