Panthers Are Listening To Offer For J-Stew

News Flash: The FO would be stupid not to listen to trade offers...for anyone, including Cam.

Of course they're going to listen to offers.

There is only one player on this team Marty wouldn't listen to trade offers for.

Exactly. A good gm listens to trade offers for every player on the team, even cam (although it would take about 5 years worth of draft picks and aaron rodgers to pull the trigger)

teams called about DWill when he was on the last year of his rookie deal and Hurney wouldn't even listen to their offers

so there's that

Hey so I'm trying to figure out this Dwil contract fiasco that everyone is so up in arms about all the time. Per roto:

29/2011: Signed a five-year, $43 million contract. The deal contains $21 million guaranteed, including a $16 million signing bonus and $5 million of Williams' second-year base salary. 2012: $5.25 million, 2013: $4.75 million, 2014: $5.75 million, 2015: $6.75 million, 2016: Free Agent

So does that mean that the 16 mil signing bonus went entirely against our 2011 cap? If so, what's the big deal? $43mil/5 years might be a lot for half a starting running back but if it's only costing us 5/6/7 mil a year against the cap for the next 4 years then what's the big deal? Please inform me if I'm totally off base on this.

no, signing bonus is prorated over the life of the contract, up to five years. in dwills case thats 3.2 mill cap hit each year

so his cap hit for 2012 is 8.45 million just off signing bonus + base salary before you count any incentives or offseason workout bonuses

Gotcha. That is a bit pricey then. Fingers crossed for Dwill to restructure so Stew can get paid. Unlikely but, a homer can dream.

very unlikely that DWill would take a paycut, I doubt the FO even asks him to. with stewart being a free agent next year they actually hurts the panthers leverage.

re-signing stewart will be 100% possible, it's just a matter of if you really want to tie up that much money in the RB position and then fill half the defense with waiver wire scrubs and UDFAs (even more than we already are)

Stewart is not going to be traded for anything less then a first round pick or a young proven defensive starter. It makes NO SENSE to trade him for less if the FO thinks we can make the playoffs this year, which i think we all believe to be a good possiblity. Trading him for any less hurts our chances this year which is stupid. Try an re sign him in the off season or take the draft pick compensation we will get. This wont be any worse then a pick we can trade him for plus we get a year with 2 great and one good rb.
