people turn down extension talks all the time. they want to wait until it's actually time to deal with it and not be sidetracked by contract talks.

The only reason that's been the case because there hasn't been a back good enough to go in the top five since 2008 with McFadden who was, SHOCKER, taken in the top five. Richardson has a shot to go in the top five because guess what? He's a top five quality back. You name teams with feature backs. Which are parts of tandems? Capology--You cannot afford to pay RBs a ton and keep 2. Devaluation.

Exactly. Just like Hurney's mis-management of the Julius Peppers fiasco. We lost him and got absolutely nothing in return, when they knew beforehand he wouldn't sign.

And Connor on a lesser scale. Although we needed him, if you KNOW that you are not re-signing a player like Connor, why keep him and let him walk? We could have a third rounder if the Bears trade for Olson had included Connor--a position they needed.

Maybe MH wanted to trade him during the season but couldn't with Beason out.

yes, 2014 is expected to be when the new tv money comes in, but next years cap room should be more than what it is now. the cap will be higher unlike this year where there was no raise from the previous year and there should be some balancing from front heavy contracts written last year.

it's expected that a lot of contracts written now and next year will be written to take advantage of the influx of money from tv deals in '14, though, so there should be more contract wiggle room to play around with from that as well.

point is, there will/should be more room so he's more likely to get the money he's wanting if he waits. people around here will bitch and moan, but i can't see the FO letting either stewart or williams go. if stewart goes, it won't be because of the money, it will be for some other reason. panthers will find a way to (over)pay him.

Exactly. A good gm listens to trade offers for every player on the team, even cam (although it would take about 5 years worth of draft picks and aaron rodgers to pull the trigger)
