Are you talking about Kendrick's verse?

it helped spark past conversations I've had recently on songs who seem to get respect without ever sayin anything...  Jay-Z for that matter.

I don't see anyone in the mainstream toppin J Cole or Wale with substance at the moment (I'll have to check out Jay Electronica)...

Jay-Z is extremely overrated at this point in his career.

J Cole is so corny and honestly is as deep as a paper cut, I don't get why everyone thinks he's some sort of genius conscious rapper.

Wale is underrated, but not at the top.

Honestly, it's all about Kendrick right now. Nobody in the limelight is even close to his level.

I don't know anyone that says J Cole is a genius conscious rapper but at least he talks about issues, period.  there is a point he is getting across.  It isn't just putting out sentences that sound good yet when you take a step back you see it's garbage.

I'm talking substance.  The art of story telling or bringing topics up to the surface, corny or not..  Anything.  Hip-hop is suffocating itself.

I had high hopes of Lamar..  Maybe lay out some lyrics to help explain this to me.  Perhaps he put out a few new songs to help his case, but from what I've heard I feel about the same way of him as you do with J Cole.  I don't see it and I don't just equate having good lyrical skills as having substance.

I'm sour on the whole music genre and honestly there is little going on to be proud of right now.  The biggest names in the industry are pulling it down just to sell records and feed their ego.  Of what I heard from Lamar, he's doing the same thing.

I do agree with you on Jay-Z..  I feel like you can take his last 4 - 5 albums, replace the beats, and you'll have 1 song and no album.  (exaggerating a bit, but not far off)

I really don't get the J Cole hype. He honestly doesn't really rap about stuff that matters all that much. A little, maybe, but even then it's corny and surface deep.

And as for Kendrick, have you ever listened through Section.80 or Good Kid Maad City through? From start to end, with the commentary? Because I felt the same way you did before I actually listened to the album straight through.

that goes for nearly ever mainstream rapper out..  It's not like Lamar is "changing the game" on any level.  Nearly every artist is barely surface deep anymore.  I've heard most of those songs and he's better than most, but that's not saying much with today's music..  especially with the trap music bullshit profoundly fuging everyone's eardrums anytime you turn on the radio.

like I said, I'm just tired of a certain brand of rap that continues to disrespect the art form when it really needs someone to finally come in and elevate it altogether...  Not just someone who is better than the average all the while average is pretty shitty today anyway.

But now I guess I'm running off topic.   Until people step out of their ignorance and what they are willing settle for, it'll never change.   And there is a lot of ignorance pushing rap today.

Pretty good verse by Kendrick.  Had the twitterverse buzzing.  Homeboy said he was the "King of NY".  One of them NY rappers gotta come at him for that.  Maybe it'll spark some competition amongst these new rappers.  With all that being said, K Dot should've left my boy KRIT out of it lol.  He don't want it with Krizzle. Krit's one of the best in the game right now.  With the stuff he raps about, I relate to most of it.

Oh, and J Cole's aight...I just can't get into him because his beat selection is ass.  He makes his own beats?  Will he should venture and possibly let someone produce for him. He shouted out my school though in one of his songs, so he gets a lil love from me lol.

Real talk, listen to Section.80 & GKMC front to back, commentaries included. He's one of the greatest storytellers of all time already, IMHO.

There's a bit of a taste of what you'll see.

THIS!!!!!! J.Cole is overrated as hell and listening to his last album makes me want to fall asleep.  The Warm Up is one of my favorite mixtapes ever and I was on the bandwagon after that, but neither of his albums have been too impressive to me.  Kendrick is on a different level right now and I'm a big Danny Brown fan too.

Gentlemen, Kendrick has really sparked something here. He's forcing everybody to step their game up big time!!

Lupe, Astro, and B.o.B's responses. All are better than what they've been dropping recently. Astro goes hard at like 15 years old.

Kendrick is great and a huge breath of fresh air but LOL at GOAT... I guess Nas, Tupac, Rakim, Andre 3000, eminem, wu-tang, among others never existed huh? Kendrick is awesome and has potential to be one of the greatest don't get me wrong, but one diss verse doesn't mean he's the GOAT now come on..

Btw, I like these guys better then Lamar.
