I honestly dont think Sean Payton is finished with punishment from the commish. As much as Sean has to have control, I can see him contacting players if things go south next year.

so then what does the commish do?

Think about it .. as long as Brees doesnt sign the contract he can be in touch with Payton.

Their GM is going to miss the first half of the season, which is a massive hinderance when you think of everything a GM does in that time span. Trades, free agent acquisitions, contract extensions, all of that stuff can't be done

He is suspended for the first 8 games. Not the time leading up to then

You think this is light punishment?

They don't draft until the third this year.

Their coach and play caller has been banned from the league this year and hit with what is basically an 8 million dollar fine.

There is one player on that team that matters, one who was pissed off about being on the franchise tag and who was five million dollars a year away from signing a contract extension. Now he's not only going to play without a long term contract, he's going to play without the guy calling the plays.

Greg Williams has been banned from the league.

And this is before the player suspensions. Vilma is likely done. Porter, Harper, and Smith are looking at suspensions.

The Saints have been fuged.

How did you get that I think its a light punishment from what I wrote? What I was saying was that initially I thought it might have been harsh (not that I cared because its the Saints)...but after reading everything in detail, factoring in that they were warned, and lie repeatedly to cover it up. They earned every bit of this punishment.

And they deserve everything they get. This reminds of countless people who violate the rules in any endeavor and cry "woe is me" when they ignore the warnings to stop and finally have to get slapped before they get a clue. It isn't like this was a one time thing and who knows if it would have stopped if Williams had stayed. I suspect it would not. Even then the organization totally underestimates the seriousness of the offenses until they actually hear them spelled out.

There is no reason to feel sorry for the team or the organization. I can understand feeling sympathetic with the fans who have shelled out big bucks to purchase season tickets and who have followed the team for years. But the organization?? Not one bit.

congratulations, you demonstrated the ability to read what I wrote.

You're not going to find a lot of sympathetic ears here. Yes the Saints got hit with a devastating punishment (despite what their fans would have you think). Yes it could have been worse than it is. Yes most of us giggled ourselves to sleep last night. Yes we'd be pissed if the tables were turned. No we don't give a fug if it offends someone's delicate sensibilities.

The way I see it, The Saints put their hand on the stove and Roger Goodell told them to take their hand off or they will get burned. They didn't and now have Third degree burns. You get what you deserve for being so stupid.

Pretty much.

I'm still very interested to see what the players union does. Why any union would want to keep members that conspired to harm other members would be beyond me. It will be fascinating to watch what they do and how they rationalize not kicking them out if that's the route they take.

Smith will prob threaten to disband the union until the suspension are lifted only to realize that he cant do that.
