Can the signing of the tender happen simultaneously with a deal that his agent has already essentially worked out between the two teams and Peppers, or does the signing of the tender have to be publicly filed and transparent for a minimum period of time to the rest of the 30 remaining teams? Just wondering.

Midnight free agent signings happen only because some teams are able to negotiate complicated contract offers in a matter of minutes. It's just a natural ability some GMs have. No tampering, just talent.

Tender could be singed but not sent to the league so they can say it isnt. Seems like everything is faxed these days so it would be a matter of faxing it to the league. Also if the Panthers and Patriots went through Peppers agent they can do anything they want. But as Mr. Scot has pointed out things get winked at from the league.

Pepp will sign the tender tomorrow, just before the draft.

New England is trying to move into the top 10. If they are successful, they can offer that and a 3rd (or next year's first) for Pepp. The Panthers then get a top 10 draft pick tomorrow.

Speculation, for sure, but Peter King is indicating that the Patriots are trying to move up to either the 8th, 9th or 10th position. Darin stated that the buzz is that the Panthers will pick before their 2nd round selection. The pieces are starting to come together. With the Pats, Pepper's agent and the Panther's front office in the mix, it's no wonder the information flow is tight as a crab's ass (and that's water tight!).

Here's the problem with this theory, Peppers agent may have brought an offer sheet from the Patriots to the Panthers that they liked - but until Peppers signs his tender the Panthers and Patriots can't directly discuss any trade. While it's true that they could have some sort of informal verbal agreement - I doubt the Patriots or the Panthers would build their whole draft strategy around an informal verbal agreement that either team could back out of the minute Peppers signs his tender. I think if a draft related trade was going to happen, Peppers would have signed the tender by now.

In addition to all of the above, Belichek said a few weeks ago that Peppers needs to sign his tender if he wants to be traded... this seemed to be a clear indication that the Patriots wanted to discuss the trade with the Panthers, not Peppers and his agent.

Once before I posted what the great Deacon Jones said about Peppers, and its absolutely true, paraphrased, 'with his physical skills, he should be unstoppable, he isn't.'

The man who said he didn't want to 'hurt' the Panthers has done so. We have lost a lot of depth. We could not participate in free-agency.

I hope he is, through some miracle, gone today. I hope it is to the Eagles or the Patriots and I hope Jordan Gross kicks Peppers ass all day long.

I think Peppers best opportunity to be traded was to the Eagles since they were sitting on 2 1st round picks, but that door closed when they traded one of those picks away and invested $$$ in Jason Peter.

I would agree that to some extent, Peppers has a knack for becoming invisible in big games - but 14.5 sacks is 14.5 sacks. Lots of other teams played the Lions and Raiders last year and didn't have a DE put up 14.5 sacks.

Jared Allen was in the same division as the Lions and played them 2x and had 14.5 sacks last year, does that mean he's suspect?

That's the same story with pretty much the entire top ten in sacks. Same story for each player, got a ton of sacks against really bad teams and the rest were spread out amongst the other 13 - 14 games.
