Tolbert As Shockey Replacement?

Anyone think since Chud often had a TE lined up in back field last season that Tolbert is basically here to replace Shockey. As a more natural fit with more options in backfield?

to a small certain extent i think he will replace him and obviously not at TE. i am excited to see all the new stuff that will come out in this years offense.

tolbert is an exceptional pass catcher and a great blocker. he won't flat out replace shockey but he will provide some similar qualities.

I think Barnidge can replace Shocky just fine.

Iwouldn't be surprise to see him lined up at TE few times this year. Believe he'll mostly be at FB either run blocking, catching in backfield, running the goalline, and on ST.

While he won't replace Shockey positionally, I do expect he will take his touches. I was firmly in the bring-Shockey-back camp, but with this signing, it is unnecessary.

Tolbert is much faster/elusive than Shockey with the ball in his hands, plus he's younger and cheaper.

The more I think about this signing, the more I like it.

I know a lot will disagree with me but instead of re-signing Shockey..Id rather draft a pass catching TE(but not with first 3 picks). Someone that is young, fast, and a guy we can develop.

If Shockey wants to come back for 2 million a year I expect we would sign him but he made 4 million last year and might want the same. I don't think we have that much money for that position for 37 catches or over 100,000 a catch when we have Barnidge and Olsen. I would like to see him as a Panther if we can sign him.
