Jstew For...

I couldn't disagree more.

The entire league is going to a two-back system. The reason our offense was a top-five attack last year is because of the dual threat of deangelo williams and jonathan stewart. they were both fresh on every single snap, and while one of them excelled between the tackles the other excelled around the edges and in open space. having them in the backfield opened up the passing game AND cam's ability to escape the pocket and run himself.

It amazes me that we're only a year removed from that clusterfug of an offense in 2010 and already people are trying to remove the components of what made last year so effective.

I disagree. The fact that we are going towards a two-back system lessens the value placed on a RB. Teams move away from the bellcow back and look for players that create mismatches and give different looks. Adrian Peterson 3-down backs are the exception now and quite frankly not worth $80-100M

RB's a valued differently.

We are not going to get a Clinton Portis for Champ Bailey deal.

We are going to get a 3rd if he walks.

Compensotory picks are determined by a complicated formula of past play and new contract terms. Since Jstew shared carries and doesn't have big numbers and contracts for RBs are much lower than almost all othr positions, we may have to settle for something like a 5th.

No I agree, it lessens the price value of a running back.

Doesn't lessen the on-field value of a running back who's proven in the system.

I was disagreeing with the "We aren't a different team without J-Stew" part of the quoted post earlier.

JStew's numbers last year: 142 att, 761 yds, 4 tds

Tobert's numbers the last year in Chud's offense: 182 att, 735 yds, 11 tds

They both run like bowling balls. They're pretty much the same age. They both play a position of median value. No reason to keep both.

I like how the "trade stewart" posts seem to have diminishing returns. Pretty soon, someone will suggest we trade him for a hobo's dick cheese and a fanta.

At a certain point, just keep him for another year and risk losing him in free agency if you're not going to to get something great for him.

I would agree if we were paying Tolbert more than fullback money. His contract will have absolutely nothing to do with whether or not we can re-sign Stewart.

We are a really good team with Stewart and Williams.

We are an ok team with just Williams and Tolbert.

No reason not to keep all three.

I would trade Stewart and our 2nd to Cleveland for their 4th. That would give us 2 top 10 picks and give them a stud RB and extra fairly high 2nd to help rebuild their team. Doubt they would pull the trigger on that but it would be a whole helluvalot better than giving up Stew just to move up 5 picks. Now maybe if they threw in a 3rd rounder it may be worth considering.

I'd rather have the ninth overall pick and add a 3rd round pick than the fourth overall pick.

(For a CB that (if traditional development of rookie CB's holds true) won't be well established until 2013 at the earliest.)

    • A Quarterback in this mold is and was always going to take a long time to develop. I think he still has quite a bit to go.  We didn't draft him for his foot speed or arm talent. We drafted him to be the leader and commander of the offensive unit. and he is growing in that capacity on a weekly basis. Being smart and being able to make the correct adjustment and get your team into the right play and being able to get the ball to the right spot is the most important thing an NFL quarterback can do. You can scheme around it, you can simplify, you can try everything, but those skills make a dominant NFL quarterback more than anything else. More than anything else, that's what the Montana's, Brady's, and Manning's do. And those are the ones you want. What we are seeing with Mahomes is a guy that has the brains, unique arm talent, and above average foot speed. He may go down as the greatest. I don't see that in Bryce's future.  He's got a long way to go, but he's showing he's capable of being that game managing, offense controlling guy. While that type of quarterback is the most dominant, it also takes the longest to get them game ready, and if they don't ever get to a dominant level, they often don't pan out. So it is a risk.
    • This is fake news as Trump would say. Nobody’s comparing seasons the nfl pundits ESPN first take si.com and other outlets are stating what we’re saying in this thread it looks like he’s regressing. Now to address your statement their leading their division ummm have you seen their defensive rankings compared to ours. You’re cherry picking which you can’t do with me I’m not a poster who’s here to argue I like thoughtful in depth convos. They have the 4th ranked defense put that in Carolina don’t you think we’d probably lead our division this year realistically. With the offense you’ve seen the last four weeks being average let’s just say with a 4th ranked defense how’d do you think we’d look or how many more wins would we have? You can’t say oh but they still lead their division knock it off it’s bc they have a terrible division and an elite defense. CJ is dealing with issues Bryce dealt with bad Oline and he has weapons but they’ve missed time and when out he’s looked below average having multiple 2pick games, the man’s had a 4 sack game followed by a 8 I repeat 8 sack game that’s a bad Oline leaving him to regress so Panther Bryce fans can’t pipe down we’re just stating facts bc yes they’re winning with a elite defense give a little more context to your statements it Matters!
