Luke Kuechly Visiting Carolina

So you watched 4 complete games and all he did was make desperation tackles and not 1 solo tackle. Hard to believe in the other 8 games he was able to amass 102 solo tackles and 89 assists for a total of 191. Which games did you watch? I just saw the game breakdown and the least number of solo tackles he had in a game was 1 against Massacusetts with 10 assists. Here is the breakout for his junior year:

Here is Patrick Willlis's game stats from his senior year for comparison:

Glad you could give us those personal observations to counter those obviously incorrect stats and facts. Otherwise we might go astray and think he was pretty good.

The games I watched were: Clemson, UCF, Florida State, and a couple from 2010.

If he looks that ineffective and unspectacular in a game where he has 12 tackles, he must completely disappear in the rest of them eh? He just doesn't look that good to me. Not aggressive enough and not the best instincts.

So I guess you won't be picking him for your flag football team then right?? Funny how all the analyses say just the opposite.

Kuechly's calling card is his instincts for the position, which led to 532 tackles in just three seasons at Boston College - a ridiculous average of 14 tackles per game, including 7.9 solo.

"I think he’s the best inside linebacker in this draft by far," Mayock said of Kuechly. "He's got more production than you could ever imagine."

Kuechly led the nation in tackles each of the past two season, has never had a serious injury, according to Mayock, has "great instincts and he’s a better athlete than people think."

Kuechly could start right away, Mayock said. While saying there might be some "explosive" defensive tackles available at 15, and that DTs are typically more valuable than LBs (assuming the players are equally talented), he thinks the Eagles, with their history of struggles at linebacker would need to pick a player who can play there.

He later added, though, that Kuechly has something to prove at the Combine. Run a 4.7 40-yard dash, and he's an almost sure top 15 pick, Mayock said. "If he runs 4.8, there’s going to be a problem.

This was before the combine. So if you run a 4.7 and you are a top 15, what if you run a 4.59??? Hmm. maybe a top 10?????? Unless of course you don't like Mayock. Who else run the same scheme as Philly and has 2 linebackers coming back from serious injury????

Draft another MLB?

A little research is your friend.

Kuechly played OLB his freshman season when Mark Herzlich was injured. He had 158 tackles that year....2nd in the nation in that category. He won all kinds of awards that year.

When Herzlich came back, they shifted him inside...where he has had 183 tackles as a Sophomore and 191 tackles as a Junior (All-American both years adn won EVERY LB award his Junior year).

At the combine, he showed excellent speed with a 4.58 40 and a 1.93 split. That speed and quickness showed that he definitely had the athleticism to play OLB in the NFL.

He is a guy that can play all 3 LB positions at a very high level. With the BIG ? about Davis, having him able to play OLB....and able to slide isnide to back-up Beason would be huge.

So YES....I could see him go in the top half of the 1st round.....and even to the Panthers.

That is what you have to do when you star goes down with Achilles problems and based on everyone who has had the same problem, he won't fully recover for years. Does it suck? Yeah but you have to get someone in there who can do the job.If Beason were going to be 100% we wouldn't be having this conversation. Besides Kuechly can play Will or Sam as well. THink we might need someone who is versatile like MadHatter pointed out???

you forgot Aldon smith, Clay Matthews, Ryan Kerrigan, and Jon Beason. I'm not even going into 2005, I don't even remember the 05 draft.

How many of those guys were busts in the past 5 years?? Lauranitis and Puz are not busts either. I count one, the same guy you won't shut up about. I'm not saying he will be a superstar but to put him with Curry is just ridiculous

Hey Johnny High-Q....I was listing out Butkus winners

it doesnt matter how good he is when OL are getting hands on him or any other LB on this team.LBs are important to this scheme but not as important as having the right pieces on the DL. not to take away from Luke he is a decent prospect, but if the best DL is on the board how can you past that.
