One more thing...what if Beason and Thomas Davis are healthy this year?????

Now we have James Anderson, TD, Beason, and a guy who will never see the field. Great pick geniuses.

Only a genius would expect an NFL player with 3 consecutive ACL surgeries to return to play at a high level. You sir, are wise and the Panthers should take your advice and NOT address the liklihood that he will be injured again or not be the same. Any time you begin a sentence with "What if...." then whatever follows is fact and should serve as the cornerstone for all decisions.

what if the light comes on for captain and butler and hogan turn into the real deal but we draft a CB in the first round? Great pick geniuses.

what if ron edwards comes back and is everything that the club thought he could be and mcclain and fua come in and show themselves to be studs in the interior Dline but we go and draft brockers/poe/cox/other fat guy??? great pick geniuses.

we run that risk at pretty much every position we are looking at to one degree or another. imo, expecting both TD and beason to come at 100% and stay there is about as pollyanish as expecting those things i mentioned to happen.

not saying that kuechly is the right pick, but it wouldn't be a wrong one.

This would be about as good of a "problem" as a team can have. Those three will never play a significant portion of the season together. Not that I think Kuechly is the answer- he's small and slow. Would be a massive mistake at 9.

what in the world would make you think that he is slow? because he's white? because he didn't rack up tons of sacks? both those possibilities are piles of steaming poo. he clocked at a very good speed (he'd be among the 3-5 fastest LBs in just about any year) and he shows it on the field. the dude is everywhere the action is. whatever gets out of the backfield becomes his problem and he takes care of it. he's the thing that keeps big plays from happening.

4.58 in the 40 is NOT slow.

This is very fast--not to mention the agility drills. He is also smart and instinctive, something that makes you play faster.

I will admit that I do not know what TD's knee will do, or that Beason miraculously has fully recovered from his Achilles injury, but historically, it would be safe to say that I would not assume both have a successful return. Odds are stacked against TD, but throw in Beason, and we could very easily be down 2 LBs.

Kuechly is perhaps the best and most versatile LB in the draft. To assume we have no need for a starting-caliber LB shows a Madden-like approach to personnel.

Just extending your point--

How many times have we gone a whole season without a rash of injuries? it is that kind of short sighted thinking that prevented us from having depth last year when both of them went down.

So if Kuechly is small and slow at 6'3" 245lbs and runs a 4.58 40 yard dash- then Beason is tiny and snail like at 6'0"-237lbs and ran a 4.64 before the achille's heel injury.

We had 3 DT's on IR last year....it's kind of shortsighted to ignore that position too.

We put Fua and McClain on IR at the end of the year because they hit the wall and we needed the roster space. To me, it looked like the D line got BETTER after they were out. However, Beason and Davis being out ALL SEASON is what cost us several games. It would be beyond foolish to think both of them are going to come back at 100% and play all season. Remember, Connor, Applewhite, and Senn are all gone. As far as we know, Ron Edwards, McClain, and Fua are all 100% now, and have a year under their belts as starters. Which position do we need more? It's pretty obvious if you ask me. Plus: DT's Poe- worker out warrior? Brockers- benefit of other LSU linemen?, DE-Coples- does he take a bunch of plays off? I would probably be ok with any of them honestly, but I think we really need a starting LB that is healthy the most.

In the meantime we have ron edwards coming back from a torn pectoral muscle not an achilles heel or three ACL surgeries. Not exactly the same. Plus neither Fua or McClain had serious injuries. IN addition Shirley looked pretty good with 2 1/2 sacks in 4 games from the DT spot.

Meanwhile we let Connor leave in free agency, Senn who started quite a bit we don't attempt to resign, and the rest of the guys are largely unproven.

We went DT twice last year in the draft. We last picked up a linebackker of any note in the draft 4 years ago.

You seem to be the one ignoring reality in a vain attempt to find anything to bolster your argument.
