Major Bobcats Announcement Coming Soon?

Recommended Posts

Have to disagree with y'all about the colors...take a stroll through any Foot Locker/Lids, etc. Throwback Hornets colors/gear is BY FAR the number one NBA-related merchandise in stock. Not New Orleans Hornets. Or Charlotte B**cats. CHARLOTTE HORNETS. Went on a recon mission to a mall when I was visiting Charleston last weekend. Now I doubt you'll see these numbers at the B**Cats team store, but it seems like even Mike himself knows the deal...

Basically. Name change is and always has been a overblown LOCAL issue. Nationally and globally Hornets mean jack and we wont get respect til we start winning. 6 years ago it was "screw the NBA, screw the Hornets, screw the Cats..we never wanted the arena and evil militant carpetbagger Bob built it anyway!" Now in 2012 its "thanks for the arena and all the growth and money that comes with it. Thanks for all your time and hard work the last 8 years, thanks for the hot sexy cheerleaders, but, but I want the Hornets back! Hornets deserve this not those Cats! Purple and teal will make it 1993 again!"

You are wrong. No surprise though.

The Bobcats need to do EVERYTHING possible to move away from Robert Johnson. He is arguably one of the worst owners in NBA history and did a lot of things to alienate himself and the bobcats from charlotte and the community. The bobcats were a "toy" for him and his deep pockets. he didn't care about the team/city and it was quite obvious. dude didn't even live here, lol.

Charlotte supported the Hornets. They don't support and will never support the "Bobcats". What a f*cking gay ass name to begin with. The Hornets had the league record for consecutive season sell outs. When is the last time the bobcats had a sell out?

As far as the hornets brand being irrelevant nationally and internationally, you're incorrect again. The Hornets had significant marketing value and were often one of the teams playing exhibitions overseas during the early-mid 90s. LJ/Zo also had high jersey sales. I recall when we got those purple jerseys, man sh*t was crazy how fast those things sold. everyone wanted one.

A couple years ago at college I lived w/ a S.Korean exchange student for one semester. He spoke okay english but knew a lot about the NBA and especially the Charlotte Hornets. He said the most popular teams there were the Bulls, Lakers, and Charlotte Hornets.

F*cking retro Charlotte Hornets gear sells more than the bobcats stuff does now lol.

The Hornets are old news. The HIVE got blown up. The Hornets play for NO now. Bobcats are Charlottes team now. Bob Johnson and his money saved us, remember that MrTouchdown. NOs Hornets could give a damn about you. Your money supports Bobs vsion 8 years and running.

My money don't support sh1t from the bobcats. haven't been to a game in over 2 years. don't see myself going anytime soon, either.

You probably live in Fayetville or Lumberton.

the gf is a teacher, and they basically give bobcats tix away to CMS employees. I took some from her because I was out of toilet paper.

Thunder have a worse name than Bobcats but you dont hear about it because they win. I'd much rather MJ invest this money into scouting/development/free agency than a worthless name change that still leaves us with a garbage product

You are right on many levels. The Bobcats never sell out any games. Most of the people that are at the games are there because they have free tickets. Hell, Friday night they gave everyone in attendance free tickets to last nights game and there were still only about 3,000 fans there. It's the saddest most pathetic thing I've ever seen. I mean they have given free tickets away to everyone in attendance more than once this season. Does no good. Also the fans that are there don't cheer. Has to be the quietest crowd ever. It's like they don't even care. Which they probably don't. I work for the team, and I'm almost to the point of not caring.

Also, at the games there are WAY more people wearing throwback Hornets gear than Bobcats. It's not even close.

I don't see how Thunder is a bad name. It isn't generic and gay like the Bobcats. Bobcats sounds like a stupid elementary or middle school mascot.

Lets not forget that Bob Johnson wasn't the only one trying bring back NBA to Charlotte, there was others wanted save us too, he was running against a group with the likes of Muggsy any Larry Bird, and quite frankly i strongly believe that group would had done better then Johnson.

What growth are u talking about dude? You do realize that Charlotte will never have a Final 4 here because the arena is too small here right?

Yup, I'm pretty sure we can't even have an ACC tourny at the arena because it is way too small. It is way smaller than the old Coliseum. I was just having this discussion with someone that works at the arena last night.
