Dwill Lets People Know To Calm Down... Lol

teams contacted the panthers about DWill when he was on the last year of his rookie deal and Hurney wouldn't even listen to offers. This was during the 2-14 season too so it wasn't like they were in win-now mode or anything. i wouldn't automatically chalk up what hurney says now as PR speak. he may very well be willing to shell out another huge contract to Stew next offseason, stubbornly sticking to the "build through draft and resign our own" mantra.

I REALLY hope that we do not sign Stewart to a huge contract and have both DWill and Stewart making that much money. Having that much tied up in one position (especially RB) makes it very difficult to add the other pieces and talent to truly become a complete and dominant team.

I love what Tolbert brings in the goal line situations. I would be happy if I NEVER saw Cam with another goal line QB run. Guy is gonna get killed one of these times. Those times where he went airborn and got rocked made me cringe. He is way too valuable to this team to risk him that way.

Give the ball to the human bowling ball.

It'll be interesting to revisit this thread in about 13 months....

Tolbert is another weapon, period. He is a proven asset and 1 more option to move the ball. Can a team have too many playmakers? Nobody was bitchin when Hoov was lead blocking and not a whole lot more. Tolbert will do more...

Is DWill restructuring out of the question? Doesnt he have the reputation of being a team player? Didnt he say "I dont care what they want me to do. If they want me to fill waterbottles, I'll fill waterbottles. Anything to help us win."? I think he'll be the 1st player to do whatever needs to be done to keep JStew in Carolina...

We aint going to get there with a few awesomes and a bunch of mediocres. Tolbert is an upgrade...

Everybody loved it when DWill & JStew were in the backfield together. Now there is that or DWill& Tolbert or Stew & Tolbert or would Chud ever put all 3 on the field at the same time? Nah, its too brutal, defenses would be cross-eyed by halftime...

Im just sayin, it could happen. The glass aint just half-full, its time to order another...

I didn't know optimism existed around here. ;) Its a nice change up.

Who cares what Stewart's getting paid this year? He's going to end up either A) Walking away for nothing or B) signed to a ridiculous contract that further hurts our cap situation. Without knowing the specifics of the deals this team has two options:

1) Trade Stewart - Shouldn't be in this position in the first place if Hurney had any foresight whatsoever. Stew is the best RB on the team and b/c of the Williams deal he is most likely not going to be a Panther either before or after the 2012 season.

2) Keep them both for this year, sign Stewart in the offseason, and release Deangelo after the 2012 season. The part that sucks about this is that Deangelo's contract will most likely hurt the cap if he's released.

3) Keep Stewart this year and let him walk after 2012: It'll be nice to get one more season out of the Dwill/Stewart combo but it's going to come at a price of getting nothing for a low-yardage RB worth at least a 2nd round pick right now.

The thing that we can't do is sign both. Its too much money if Stewart wants to get paid his market value. So for the long-term success of the team I don't get why you don't trade one of them now especially since we just signed Mike Tolbert who was an extremely capable RB for the Chargers last year. He could easily fill the secondary RB role.

Couldn't there be a fourth option, where DWill restructures his contract to provide extra $ to resign JStew? I know there are some big "ifs" involved in that, but it's common practice in the NFL. I'd like to see us keep the backfield together, but sometimes business gets in the way.

Tolbert was signed bc this is the last season Double Trouble are together.

Williams and Stewart are smart enough to know that is the most likely reason....and trading either this season is unlikely.

Williams knows Stewart will deserve a slightly bigger contract and BOTH know Carolina is going to face that

If the Raiders said they would give us a billion dollars for JStew we would take it, but that's not gonna happen. The organization knows how good a running game we can have with a 2 headed beast following a human bowling ball FB around. That will force defenders to play the run against the RBs and give Cam time and space to throw or escape. That's the deal.

That is the deal for 2012....then the big picture of why we have Tolbert comes into play
