Dwill Lets People Know To Calm Down... Lol

Marty Hurney is a freaking moron so I wouldn't doubt that he would sign a guy like Tolbert under the assumption that he would have three starting-caliber running backs on the team.

I'm really hoping this is just PR-speak on the part of Marty Hurney. We need money for this defense and OL in the future if we are going to be a contender and he is out there throwing away cap room on a position that a lot of teams fill with 2nd-3rd round draft picks. Its unreal...

He's getting payed less than Mare, chill out on the money issue. It doesn't hurt us this year and this contract isn't going to be the one that prevents us from resign Stewart if we so decide.

This.

I guarantee you that teams will inquire about Williams and Stewart......and I guarantee that the Panthers will listen to those offers.

For a good offer, I would not be surprised to see one moved.

You don't give up, do you?

Rivera said all of last season that the greatest addition to this defense was health. Money was spent last off-season to improve it, but there were so many injuries, especially to Ron Edwards right out of the gate, we never saw the defense at its full health and potential.

Given an off-season to get starters healthy and a draft, the defense should look almost completely different from the one that cost the Panthers games last season, even without making a splash in FA.

The sky isn't falling, and with Chud in the booth, Tolbert is a great signing.

Not when I am right....just like you don't give up when you are continuously wrong.

Given the financial aspects of the contract, we can easily keep all three....and that is a REAL possibility.

However, if you think that the Panthers would not entertain a strong offer for Stewart or DWill you should just stick to Madden. I gurarantee you that teams will inquire (not a stretch). And, I WANT the Panthers to listen....if they don't, that is plain stupid. For a great offer, I would not be surprised if one were traded.

This view is nothing more than understanding the economics and business aspect of the NFL....unlike people like you who are nothign but emotional.....but, but, but I LOVE Stewart...they can't trade him.

I think if you read between the lines of that quote Hurney is saying "We're not going to actively shop them but we'll listen to offers if you contact us, but you better offer a good deal or it's going to be a short conversation."

The exact reason Steve Smith is still here. (Before Cam got here)

I totally agree that the additions of a healthy Davis, Beason, and Edwards are HUGE for the defense.

Not much worry about Edwards....his injury was not severe.

A little worried about Beason...not sure if it will take him a season to get back to form.

Very worried about Davis....just not sure how well that knee is going to hold up.

But, if they are all healthy......a HUGE difference.

Who cares what Stewart's getting paid this year? He's going to end up either A) Walking away for nothing or B) signed to a ridiculous contract that further hurts our cap situation. Without knowing the specifics of the deals this team has two options:

1) Trade Stewart - Shouldn't be in this position in the first place if Hurney had any foresight whatsoever. Stew is the best RB on the team and b/c of the Williams deal he is most likely not going to be a Panther either before or after the 2012 season.

2) Keep them both for this year, sign Stewart in the offseason, and release Deangelo after the 2012 season. The part that sucks about this is that Deangelo's contract will most likely hurt the cap if he's released.

3) Keep Stewart this year and let him walk after 2012: It'll be nice to get one more season out of the Dwill/Stewart combo but it's going to come at a price of getting nothing for a low-yardage RB worth at least a 2nd round pick right now.

The thing that we can't do is sign both. Its too much money if Stewart wants to get paid his market value. So for the long-term success of the team I don't get why you don't trade one of them now especially since we just signed Mike Tolbert who was an extremely capable RB for the Chargers last year. He could easily fill the secondary RB role.

Yeah people forget that our starting defense didn't even make it to preseason intact.

I was talking about Tolbert dippoo. We signed him for less than Mare.

True, it would be professionally irresponsible if Hurney didn't at least look at offers.

The issue here is that many posters assume that just because Tolbert was signed, 34 and 28 are automatically on the block. It appears that this signing was simply to improve this offense, if improving on last season's production is even possible.

#2 will be very tough to do. Would be a HUGE cap hit to release DWill at the end of the season.....although I would prefer Stewart here and DWill gone if I was forced to chose.

I really see Trade Stewart now or let him walk at the end of the season as the more likely scenarios.....and I don't fuging like either one of those options.

teams contacted the panthers about DWill when he was on the last year of his rookie deal and Hurney wouldn't even listen to offers. This was during the 2-14 season too so it wasn't like they were in win-now mode or anything. i wouldn't automatically chalk up what hurney says now as PR speak. he may very well be willing to shell out another huge contract to Stew next offseason, stubbornly sticking to the "build through draft and resign our own" mantra.

I don't think that it necessarily means that either are on the block. But, I do think that the addition of Tolbert may increase the chances of it happening. They have a very capable #2 in Tolbert....so losing a RB for the right price would not be a huge loss.
