Not true at all. He was a first rounder to begin with who has outperformed his contract. I could see Fox or Ryan giving up a first for him. Particularly next year's.

It's very typical for fans to over-value their own players, nothing wrong with that, just unrealistic.

http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/2012/03/20/four-years-10-million-for-tolbert/

Per a source with knowledge of the contract, Tolbert gets a signing bonus of $2 million and a fully-guaranteed base salary of $700,000 in 2012.

The deal also provides for a $1.5 million option bonus and base salaries of $1 million, $2.3 million, and $2.4 million in 2013, 2014, and 2015, respectively.

Does that mean, we have the option to keep him on a yearly basis after his first season? Is it player or club option? if its a club option, and I am reading it right, it doesn't force us to let Stewart walk.

It means that we have the option to keep him in 2013 if we pay the option bonus or release him and not have to pay it. His signing bonus remainder would escalate which is 1.5 million if we release him so he will count at least that much against the cap next year regardless. If we keep him, his cap hit next year would be 3 million. You can say he is a fullback but everything points to this being insurance against Stewart not resigning next year. if Stewart signs we can keep him or release him before the option bonus goes into effect. If Stewart doesn't sign we exercise the option and he still only costs 3 million.

i just dont see anyway we can keep both Williams and Stewart w/the contract we handed out to Williams. I could easily be wrong, but unless we restructure Williams and somehow someway give them similar salaries and not let it put us in cap heck...Tolbert was an excellent sign

I see it the same way. Good signing! Why complaining about having probably the deepest backfield in the league?!

To this day I still don't understand us not letting DWill walk, get a 3rd round comp pick for this year, re-signing Stew, and picking up this type player in FA.

With that money saved last season we could have had the 2nd or 3rd best CB on the market last year, and not have to worry about that position since Gamble is still playing at a high level.

Sometimes......
