Panthers Agree With Tolbert On 4 Year Deal

I seriously don't think he's Stewart's replacement, Stewart is ten times the RB Tolbert is.

I don't either, but we are not running it as much as we used to. DWill averaged 11 carries a game last year. Do we need 2 top RBs? I love Stew, but if a trade can land us a second rounder, it would sure help the D. Maybe we can ship DW, but both is not a great use of the cap, IMO.

I still hate the DW contract. A second contract for Stewart at 24 is a great idea--DW at 28 was not. However, If the running is split between DW (20 carries) and Tolbert (5 carries) and we possibly add a scat back as suggested, maybe that gives us more versatility. I think maybe Tolbert and a scat back give us more flexibility--I dunno. We will see. Odd signing, but I see RR all over this, not MH, something I like.

Well then Tolbert is the replacement for Vaughan.

So, we signed Tolbert to replace a 4th string RB who never played (except in the preseason).

Hey, I get it l. Everyone here loves Stewart (myself included). No one wants to believe that we woudl trade him. But, with this signing, I think the odds are VERY GOOD that we trade Stewart this offseason.

That is FLAT too much money to have invested in the RB position. If they re-signed Stewart at the end of the season, we would have nearly $20M per year tied up in RB. That is insane.

I am not saying what WILL happen....as I have no inside sources. However, my money is still on a trade.

Vaughan was activated mid season, to play on special teams. When Goodson was IR'd.

that is 25-30 carries per game you have slotted out.....and haven't included Cam yet.

Atm, this is what it is:

TE: Greg Olsen - Gary Barnidge - Ben Hartsock

FB: Richie Brockel

RB: DeAngelo Williams - Jonathan Stewart - Mike Tolbert

I have my own 53 man squad predictions like I do every year. On mine I have just 2 QBs. If we were to keep 3, I see Hartsock gone and Brockel the 3rd TE/FB. That would leave Tolbert to be active every Sunday (since people are worried about that). Although, I see him being active every Sunday either way.

There is no way that the Panthers signed Tolbert for a decent contract to be a 3rd string RB. And, there is no way that Tolbert signed here to be the 3rd string RB.

I very well may be wrong. But, I still think a trade is likely.

I think Carolina would have had to of told him....after this one season one of the other two is gone. We haven't figured out which one but we ain't keeping both.

Exactly. Everyone who thinks that Tolbert took a million less dollars and a loss of 90% of his touches to become a full-back are delusional.

I hate this move as much as anyone else, but I have decided that I am not going to allow myself to be super optimistic, just to get heartbroken in a week or two when we trade Stewart.

There is no way that Stewarts agent is going to allow him to sign a contract that is less than Deangelo's contract, because he is a better RB than D-lo, and that is the arguments that agents use to get the most money for their clients.

Carolina has decided that They will not be able to pay Stewart that much money, and that since we already know we will lose him, we might as well get something in return.

I dont like this move either, but there is a bright side... We will still have a good RB tandem, and we will probably get an extra second round pick that we desparately need for our defense.

Spot on.
