Lardarius Webb Question

First off, I'm gonna go ahead and say I expect short responses that will not be very friendly, but whatever...

Webb is a RFA and we could get him by giving up our 1st.

Now before you go ape-poo, we all know a CB2 is a spot we need to fill and additionally Webb is one of the best in the league atm. Only 26 and a proven starter. We use basically our first draft pick on a starting CB...something many want with our 1st pick. We then get the best d-lineman our staff finds in the draft at 2-9 & start from there. We'd be looking at Chandler Jones, Crick, Mercilus, Curry, etc. It really could make sense.

I'm just saying, if people are willing to take a Kirkpatrick, Claiborne, or Jenkins..but why not basically get Webb a mere 3 years in and proven?

Of course this would be crazy and most likely won't happen, but would you personally do this?

I'd be open to the idea...I think he's better than the shot in the dark we get at 9 in this year's draft.

people like the draft. people will always like the draft. Your argument does make sense. Only difference, of course, being that Webb would be more expensive than a rookie CB. People will never be comfortable with this idea though. It just feels dirty and weird.

Yeah I don't expect many to like this idea which is why I was obvious about my response expectations, but really this would be something to at least look at if Hurney can maneuver the $$ around

If you trade for him assuming they want to give him up, you give up a top 10 pick and you have to pay him a big contract. If you use your 1 in the draft on a corner you have used your pick but end up with a guy who you have to pay 4 million a year instead of 10 million. I would rather save the money and hope he is great, then get someone proven who you have to spent a bunch to get. With Gamble at 10 million a year can we spend 10 more for another corner. He would cost as much as all our draft picks combined.

I'm more for the idea of drafting a Claiborne or whoever because I believe in bringing in fresh new faces who want to earn their spot. Eager young men who are gonna go out and fight for it. Not someone who's just looking for a payday and a hand out. I want guys who want to not only be a part of the Panther's culture, but cultivate it and make it their own. I want Panther's that want to be Panther's for life. It seems easier to do that thru the draft than thru free agency.

No. I've haven't even seen the Raven's own fans thinking that highly of the guy until maybe this season. I'd be much more interested swapping first round picks with Philly and getting Asante. He's older but could fill in great at #2 corner while we give Hogan time to develop.
