If You Want To Ensure Cam Doesn't Get Hurt, Drafting A Guard In The First Is A Good Idea

lol jk it's not it actually doesn't guarantee your QB is going to stay healthy at all

I compiled a list of all interior linemen drafted in the first round and if their sheer presence on the line kept their QBs from getting hurt, which is what everybody assumes about DeCastro, and yes, I accounted for games they actually were playing in.

2011 - Danny Watkins – Michael Vick (Ribs) (3 Games)

2011 – Mike Pouncey – Chad Henne – Shoulder (IR)

2010 – Maurkice Pouncey – Ben Roethlisberger – Broken Nose, Foot (did not miss any games)

2010 – Mike Iupati – Alex Smith – Shoulder (missed 5 games)

2009 – Eric Wood – Trent Edwards – Concussion (missed 2 games)

2009 – Alex Mack – Brady Quinn – Foot (IR)

2007 – Ben Grubbs – Steve McNair – Shoulder (IR) ; Kyle Boller – Concussion (IR)

2006 – Davin Joseph – Started 12 games; played 13 – activated after Chris Simms game

2006 – Nick Mangold – Started 16 games; protected Chad Pennington, who started 16 games

2005 – Chris Spencer (did not start any games but played in 7)

2005 – Logan Mankins – Started 16 games; Blocked for Brady

2003 – Jeff Faine – Started 16 games; Brian Griese started 16 games as starter

2002 – Kendall Simmons – Started 14 games, kept Stewart and Maddox healthy

2001 – Steve Hutchinson – Started 16 games – Matt Hasselbeck – Shoulder, Groin (missed 3 games)

1999 – Damien Woody – Started 16 games – Drew Bledsoe kept healthy

1998 – Alan Faneca – Starter Kordell Stewart started all games

1997 – Chris Naeole – Started no games in rookie season

Even Steve Hutchinson didn't prevent Hasselbeck from getting hurt (twice actually). And not a single first round center/guard could keep their QB from getting hurt since 2007

So there's your no.1 argument for drafting DeCastro shot down lmfbao

So you're saying that it's all these linemens fault that their QB's got hurt? I mean because they get all the blame and not the other linemen, right? lol

That's not what he said at all

All RB said is that if you want to draft Decastro to prevent injuries to Cam, that's not a good call. That doesn't mean that these guys should be blamed for their QB's getting injured, it just means that they're not some spray-on forcefield like some people make Decastro look. RB isn't making a negative case against Decastro, he's playing devil's advocate against pro-Decastro posters. There's a difference.

Ridiculous argument. The point of drafting him (or any lineman) isn't to guarantee the QB doesn't get hurt- that is not possible- only to lower the probability of it happening.

well if that's the point they collectively have done a pretty shitty job at "lowering the probability"

I know others have used that reasoning and it is a factor, but its Cam size to me that will limit the injuries. The reason I want Decastro is that he will give Cam more time to pick D's apart. You give him another second or two and he would make last year look like the rookie season it was. That plus how great of a run blocker he is (and this is an area that needs help at least earlier in the year) and how that could open up bigger holes for Dwill and Co.
