You can have too much depth at RB--we have limited rosters and a salary cap. DW and Stew averaged 20 carries per game last year--combined. Great idea for foxball, but this is Chud ball. More OL, WR, and we need 2 RBs--a scatback and a between the tackles runner.

If I were the GM, I am not sure I would have any RB on a second contract. Rarely do they pay off. Marshall Faulk is the exception.

But I do not see how anyone can say, "You can never have too much depth at RB" when Neblett is a starting DT and an Undrafted rookie is at RT.

First off, we do not have limited roster space because we let nearly all of our free agents walk.

Second the salary cap is not and will never be an issue because Panther fans fail to realize year after year that we don't build through free agency, we buils through the draft

Third, Tolbert would be a hybrid scat back as he is great at catching the ball out pf the backfield. You mentioned that this is a "Chud" offense and I am guessing you are referring to the fact that we throw the ball more. Now with all do respect, the Saints throw the ball a hell of a lot more than us and they used a three back system and at times a four back system with Ingram, Ivory, Thomas, and Sproles.

And really you can't have enough depth because you never know when someone is going to go down with an injury. Bringing up the defensive tackle dilemma has nothing to do with the conversation. Rivera most likely has an idea of what he is going to do about that position.

Also my problem is not with you, it's with people bringing up the silly idea of trading away essential parts of our offense in Williams and Stewart.

Note: Other three back systems include LT, Turner, and Sproles with the Chargers and Bradshaw, Jacobs, and Ward with the Giants.

Really hard to say what Jstews future is going to be. I think dwill will restructure but at the same time, if the Panthers don't know whether they are going to be able to hold onto Jstew for whatever reason I wish they would trade him and get something out of the situation. It's always hard trying to figure out what hte Panthers will do because keeping him and letting him walk seems to be a valid option in this organization when not so much elsewhere, for this calibur of a player anyway.

The FO needs to figure it out. I hope that if Jstew were to stay this season it would be a sign of planning to resign him.

They are not going to restructure Williams down the road, he makes too much to do that and his signing bonus is already 3.3 million a year as it is. You restructure guys making high salaries with low signing bonuses or guys they want to extend no restructure. But honestly the only year it would be an issue would be next year.

I have avoided this thread because I knew what it was about...

I have said it and will say it agian, damn it!

DWill and JStew will sign 2 contracts with the Panthers. Hurney builds a core and keeps them on the team. And he has built a pretty good and big core. Why now would that change?

Also the cap is estimated to increase by 10 million or so with the cap floor implemented. We could spend the cash on Stewart who will still be young and Deangelo could be shopped.

i have a question. How do we have 2 1st round rbs and still not lead the league in rushing? also how do all the other teams run the ball w/o 2 1st rd rbs? are we #1 and they are all tied for 32nd?

We easily had the best rushing attack last year. We just don't run the ball as excessively as Denver and Houston do/did, especially after the latter lost Schaub, so we didn't have the best yardage total.

#3 in rushing, #1 in YPC, #1 in TDs, first team ever with 3 rushers over 700
