If Not Jake?

Recommended Posts

Hi guys,I'm new here and its great.I have been reading and one thing is clear. It seems that no one remembers what a true quaterback is. Jake has had the good fortune of having some of the best recievers in the game.He is fortunate that he led an expansion team to thier first superbowl and was competative,(because of some of the greatest catches I have ever seen a reciever make) in that one game he won so many casual fans its amazing. But the real is that we are never going to win the big one with him as quaterback.Without the quality recievers he has he is average at best, when you really need him less than average. As far the question there is no better option now. The coaching staff and GM have let every decent option that has bee there pass on by.This tells me that we have no intention of winning andthat is very disappointing to me as a fan.It is time for a new start coaching staff and quaterback. There is no way Jake should be our starter on opening day.

juss curious? what better options have we had that was passed by? and lets be realistic. please dont say trade for cutler. or cassel.

That's funny. Jake had his best statistical year in 2004, without his best receiver.

Everyone thinks Jake only sees Steve Smith, but if Smith catches almost everything thrown his way, even if he is in double coverage, does it really matter?

The only thing that matters are results. Steve Smith has been our most consistent playmaker for some time. It would be foolish not to get him the ball as much as possible.

ok i have an interesting question and i didn't feel like starting another jake thread

who would you rather have: Jake Delhomme or Steve Beuerlein? The quarterback who took us to the superbowl or the QB who did more with less and still shined?

 What would you rather have? A player that took over a game we were far behind in and won in the second half, then took us to the Super Bowl the very next year after coming off a 1-15 year or a QB that had one great play diving into the inzone and is considered a God in retrospect? Fvck Beurlein, he was never more than a journeyman QB, but he was one of the best QB's we have had, hardly a great accomplishment. I don't think Jake is something awesome, far from it, but he's the best we've had and I don't mind having him around another year or so while we try to find his replacement...

3 games the running game was shut down completely.

Minnesota

Tampa Bay (1)

Arizona (2)

in all 3 of these games Jake didn't play well at all.

He wasn't great against Minn or Tampa, but the entire team sucked in those two games as well. The playoff game against Arizona we were doing well running the ball early on but completely got away from it and by then the game was out of hand.

Fine let's ignore the 9 games Jake was over a 90QB rating and the Green Bay game where we were poo at running the ball until the last second, but Jake still played well. Seriously guys let's just put aside anything good he does and hate him for 3 bad games but 9 very good games. If we had Roethlisberger as a QB you'd be calling for his head too I imagine.

Irrelevant. The Arizona and Oakland games were in 2008.

Fine, explain the 9 games where he did extremely well and in half of those the running game didn't get started until after the second half.

We all know he's not great but you guys are seriously underrating him.

Who said anything bad about Roethlisberger? That guy had his share of blunders last season but he tuned it up in the playoffs. He learns from his mistakes. Jake doesn't.

uh, what game were you watching? I saw Williams and Stewart breaking some nice runs early on to move the chains. In the first half we scored 3 rushing touchdowns, 2 of them from Williams. So your impression that the running game was "poo" is a steaming crock of poo.

The Panthers run to set up the pass. In plenty of games Jake complemented the running game, using play-action to make the safeties bite and find some guys long downfield open. I don't think it's any surprise some QBs benefit from a dominant running game. See Kerry Collins + 2008 Titans running game for reference.

The grass is always greener. But just because the alternative is bad doesn't mean the present situation is favorable.

I'm in the boat of "Give It Another Year," personally. Hopefully more options present themselves in next year's draft. (Yeah, original post, I know.)

Hey, I'm right there with you.

Despite that horrible game, I think Jake is an above average quarterback. I sincerely hope his arm was bothering him more than he let on, and that he'll come in and light it up next season.

But if that's not the case, it's definitely time to groom someone -- whether they are already on the team or not -- to take the reigns.

I think Jake brings so many things to this team, and in many ways we're very fortunate to have him. He's not an elite quarterback by any stretch of the imagination, but he really is a leader on the team. The part that nags me is if Jake couldn't get it done with our offense last year, what does he need to make a deep playoff run.

And granted, that's not even fair to say. Our defense and gameplan had as much to do with our last to Arizona as Jake did.

Like it or not, Jake is our best option right now. Let's revisit this next year (as we do every year). For now, I'll stand behind Jake and wish him the very best.

That's my quarterback man. :tear:
