Mike Tolbert mentioned as a possible FA? Eh?

Recommended Posts

Per Rothworld.com:

Free agent Mike Tolbert is expected to sign with Pittsburgh or Carolina, according to Union-Tribune San Diego's Kevin Acee.

Tolbert is expected to meet with an undisclosed team Saturday after negotiations with the Chargers hit a standstill. Tolbert's camp apparently wants more money than San Diego is willing to offer, and the two sides remain far apart on agreeing in value.

Where's this coming from?

I mentioned a while ago we should keep an eye on him. Goodson looks to be in the doghouse and we could use an improvement over Vaughan

I don't know if we could sign him for that type of money though.

Whenever I watched Tolbert play, he was an absolute beast. A human bowling ball.

Really surprised that the Charges aren't willing to resign him.

I don't know how much space we have left considering we've signed like 9 players this week and he may want more than we can budget. McClain and Battle (if we go there) might be enough to make up for the Tolbert loss.

    • He's turned into quite a gunslinger
    • Hey guys, remember when we won those meaningless games in 2010 and it cost us the #1 pick and the chance to draft Cam? Oh.... right I get that's more of an extreme example because it got us a HOF caliber QB.  But it's the general concept, you want to win late season games when you have the pieces in place to make a run the next season, we currently are not in that place. Herbert and Sewell are the ones I point to so much, because we literally lost out on 2 franchise different makers by 1 draft slot.  Give us those two players while we still have CMC, Moore, and the rest of the picks we gave up for Bryce, and we'd have been a legit playoff contender the last few years. Draft position matters in the NFL more than any other sport (other than the #1 pick in the NBA in a year with a generational talent).
    • It’s so crazy. If we had a shot for pick 1 and there was some generational player there then yeah maybe I could get behind the draft position argument. I’d say most GMs and coaches aren’t diving into the draft right now. They are trying to win games.
