no trade for Bobcats.... officially

Tim Duncan was drafted not signed as a free agent. He was a franchise player. Finding role players like Finley and Horry is the easy part.

Sorry, I didn't clarify I meant the year that they were able to get Tim to re-sign they went out and signed Horry and Finley.

Now I think it will be harder for the Bobcats to sign players and they will have to pay more money for bigger name athletes to come play for the Cats but it's not out of the realm of possibility that the Cats could sign some players in the offseason.

Also, there is not an abundance of big name players out there so these less known players may just go where they can get the most money.

I think Cho is trying to duplicate what happened during in his time in OKC. Build through the draft (Kemba, Bismack, and hopefully Anthony Davis), and then acquire good role players. In OKC's case, they usually get their role players through trades.

However, with the Bobcats having so much cap room; they may just choose to acquire role players through free agency.

am i alone in feeling like we need to be shopping Kemba in the offseason instead of DJ? I feel like I'm watching a more spunky slightly less sucky Adam Morrison with him.... :(

uh yeah, you're definitely the only one. And Adam Morrison does not suck. He played well for the Bobcats until he hurt his knee. He is now averaging like 60 points a game oversees.

Yeah if you can make small moves for draft picks by taking advantage of other teams being in a lurch...great, but those moves don't happen often. What I ment was if the Cats have 40mil to spend do you think a franchise player will come to Charlotte? No they won't. Charlotte will have to overpay for role players and that's no good either. The only chance is to luck up and draft a franchise player and pray when their contact is up that they are like a Durant and resign verses LeBron and bolt.

I do agree not to make moves and take on crappy contracts or old players. You get one shot a year in the draft to hit a homerun. Even Anthony Davis won't make a huge change with the Cats. IMO he isn't a franchise player. Could he become one...maybe in a few years but then its contract time:confused:

Well obviously its difficult for any team to sign a "franchise player" but second tier guys are available from time to time. Guys like Chauncey Billups signing with the Pistons in 02, Gilbert Arenas leaving the Warriors and signing with Washington, Steve Nash signing with the Suns after Dallas let him go.

Cap flexiblity is just what its name implies- it gives a team opportunities to make moves they otherwise wouldnt have. Its why the Hawks were able to trade for Joe Johnson when the Suns didnt want to pay him (gave up Boris Diaw and some picks), its how the Celtics were able to land Ray Allen while saving their good young players to trade for Garnett.

BTW if we did manage to draft a franchise player, the CBA makes it verydifficult for the guy to just pack up and leave before his 2nd NBA contract. You've got 4 years on a rookie deal, then he would be a restricted free agent. There is no way any team would fail to match a restricted free agent offer, and virtually all franchise guys sign a max deal for 3 or 4 years. The only way for an elite player to leave earlier would be to sign the qualifying offer for his 5th year, losing millions for one season then signing somewhere else the next. Thats pretty much unprecedented though. Also its a bit weird to say Lebron left while Durant stayed considering Lebron was in Cleveland for 7 years and this is Durant's 5th in OKC, but I agree that I would much prefer a guy with Durant's personality.

I have no problem building through the draft. I think with Cho we can accomplish this. He made some solid picks last year, for our future. I doubt he would have gone for Adam Morrison! haha

I just hope the balls bounce our way this time!!! I have a gut feeling we'll get screwed over come lottery night.

Probably haha, Stern doesn't want Anthony Davis in Charlotte.
