More dwill contract rant

People tend to forget Williams wasn't an exclusive Free Agent. We had to outbid other teams and I believe had the Front Office thought they could get him cheaper then they would have.

Same with Charles Johnson.

The entire age argument is bullcrap. He has never been THE #1 running back since he came in the NFL. I'm willing to bet he'll play and be able to contribute to a team until his mid-30s.

This isn't 1992 where you run your back into the ground in 3 years and his legs are dead.

Here's an example, Kevin Faulk vs. Larry Johnson. Who was more productive and consistent over the length of their career?

This is a passing league now.

all the more reason Williams didn't need the contract with Stewart here.

Big difference between having a beastly QB running while teams play the pass vs. RBs pounding the rock like it was 1980.

I posted this in another thread but I will say it again.

The Panthers reward players who have performed well for them in the past. They do not hire big name FA's who have no team loyalty and are selling there services to the highest bidder.

I love this about our front office. If you have serious problems with this, maybe you are following the wrong team and would be happier cheering for the Redskins or Eagles.

We'll see where the "loyalty" is for J-stew when we don't have the cap space to re-sign him because of D-will dumb contract. Very smart.

Yeah, it didn't look like our rookie qb didn't need any help on offense after a shortened offseason which means our front office got a lot of things right. And one "stud" defender that we could have supposedly had for that money wouldn't have fixed that defense. Injuries made it a sieve.

yeah, and the offense ran smoothest w/ Stewart in.

it would have helped...and one stud can make those around him less horrible.

who cares if that money could of been used on a stud defensive player that could play almost all defensive snaps last year and this upcoming one.

Stewart has someone who can give him a rest when he isn't getting a rest as Cam dominates on the ground. We can at least boast about having invested more heavily in our ground attack than any team in the NFL. That makes us #1 at something....

You are the only one that gets it. We now have a RB signed to big money an for a long time and nobody in the world will trade for him. Those are the facts.

Now, for all the emotional fans, discussion of trading Stewart before he just walks away at the end of the upcoming season is ludicrous and they lose their minds because they "like" him. Get over yourself! Trade the man for the 22nd pick in this years draft and help our team. Then pick up another 4th rounder scatback to give Williams a rest occasionally. We are not even a running team any longer. It is Cams team. Foxball is dead.

no one would want a 35 yr old RB. Nothing supports that. DWill fandom is otu of control.

also, Williams had more mileage on him coming into the league than pratically any RB in the game today.

The panthers should totally do the trade scenario that I just made up. Brilliant.

Williams sucks at pass protection and the read option. Stewart is Cam's RB. Losing Stewart is a much bigger blow than Williams today.

I wouldn't restructure my contract knowing it was my last.

When you promote team loyalty, these are the types of things that happen. Look at Gross and Davis restructuring to stay with the Panthers. I know Davis didn't have a lot of options, but they went out of their way to make the cap work for us. Again, this is why I love our team and love the players we bring in

Dont get me wrong. I think dwill is a good back and looked fantastic last season. The point is, we don't need TWO of him. One big money part time RB on a primarily passing team is enough. Use the $$ elsewhere. Nobody in the league drafts and re ups two first round running backs. Stupid with where the game is today.

Does anyone every think that Jerry pays players based in some measure on what they've done in the past under a lesser contract? I don't hear many Panther players yelling about how they've outplayed their contract or holding out for more more when they still have years on their original deal.

I know it's the NFL but I appreciate the fact that Jerry uses his heart as well as his head when it comes to rewarding and paying a player.
