It isn't an opinion that if the New England Patriots signed Peyton Manning to backup Brady....that the money COULD be used better to field an overall better football team.

Now if, technically, everyone they signed got hit by a truck and Brady a half......and that is your basis for arguing it.....well......that is silly.

We understand your opinions, you have stated them over and over. That doesn't make them true. Here is a worksheet to help you discern the difference between a fact and your interpretation of thee facts which is an opinion. Please email it back to me and I will grade and give you pi of you are 90% correct or better. Now run along to recess.

I have stated my opinions about as often as you have stated yours.

only difference is, panthers55 is lecturing what he does is somehow different.

also, I prefer to argue old points even if repeatitive....rather than opting for the cheap and easy route of things like the post I am quoting does. Talking down to people like that makes YOUR opinion more true....is just too easy of a road to take.

that said, we did agree too often this past year. This was bound to happen.

Yeah, let's waste time arguing it's not a fact that it is easier to pass in the NFL since the rule changes....

Let's also argue it is debatable the defensive talent doesn't need to be better to make for how the league has handicapped them.

Lets review. when you use the word easier you go from a fact to an opinion. If you had said that there are more 4000 yard passers in the game than prior to 2003, that is a fact. If you had said that rules have been designed by the NFL to facilitate offenses passing the game in the NFL, then that is a fact. But when you then conclude that it is easier, you just went into the realm of an opinion. Just because it is an opinion doesn't mean most people wouldn't agree with you, it just isn't a fact.

You are hopeless. Of course that is an opinion. You really don't know the difference between the two do you???

yeah, in review...you are nitpicking words and how they are casually used on a message board.

It is easier to pass in the NFL since the rule changes. If you were to ask an NFL coach.....they wouldn't debate if that was an opinion or not. It simply is

I have no problem with you or anyone else stating your opinions as long as you know that is what they are. When I use stats and numbers to back up my opinions I still understand they are opinions whether supported or not. We really can't have an intelligent conversation until we at least can discern the difference between a fact and an opinion. If you think that is talking down to you, you place yourself there not me. I am just striving for common ground but admit the worksheet might be over the top..........:D

And that shows they are smarter than a fifth grader or what????

please, I could say it is a fact Cam Newton can throw the ball over my house.

panthers55 would enter and say, nope. opinion. he hasn't actually done that CRA.

I don't want to play that game. Enough evidence to support that claim as being fact.

I think you are getting it. If you said it is a fact he could throw the ball over your house then that would be a hypothesis or an opinion not a fact. If you witness him doing it then it is fact that he did it. If you video tape it so everyone can see it, then it is a supported fact based on visual evidence.

To quote Henry Kissinger's head in Futurama: this does not seem like a productive area of discussion.

Well Henry, I think we had some constructive dialogue and while we had no definitive agreement, there was clearly movement toward a common understanding. I would characterize these discussions as generally productive which opens up the door for further movement in the future.
