More dwill contract rant

Or he was 35% of the rushing attack but accounted for 60% of the salary invested in rushers.

True. Your point???? There is a big difference between being a great value and being not worth what we spent. And the analysis is really subjective. If we went just by value we would dump every veteran after their rookie contract was over including Newton and Stewart.

again, i don't buy Hurney fixed the offense. Chud/Cam fixed it. Overall, it was the same team as 2010 with those 2 exceptions. Both of those were Rivera moves as well.

So Hurney hired Rivera who hired Chud and drafted Cam. Thus using this complex equation:

Hurney + (rivera) x Chudzinski/Cam = Fixed Offense.

So Hurney indeed fixed the offense.

Haha. Jesus you guys hate hurney.

That wasn't a knock on Hurney. The offense was fixed b/c of Hurney though. Chud/Cam was the actual difference.

I only have one issue w/ Hurney at this point. The rest, I think he does a good job with. Also, I have said before that with the Williams contract a lot is hindsight being used. No way for Hurney to fully know the scheme and how good Cam would be so quickly.....keeping Williams was a safe move as well.

well maybe Jerry Richardson fixed the offense then. Could argue had a bigger say in Cam/Rivera.

So we don't care about sacks as long as they are quality sacks? It's all about quantity and quality.

But again quality clarifies the value of quantity. If you have a guy who gets 10 sacks in 200 pass rushing opportunities versus a guy who gets 4 sacks in 20 opportunities, who is better?? The quality stats help determine action. In the above scenario I would get the guy with 4 sacks more chances to see what he can do at the expense of the guy who got 10 sacks. Or maybe put them in together???

Right, that's what I have been saying. Hurney put out the contract because he wanted to protect Cam. When it turned out Cam was more advanced than anybody thought, they could put more on him and more fully develop him at the cost of carries for williams and stewart. Which impresses me because a lot of front offices will stick with a plan no matter what.

Is it a bad contract? Yeah, but he is still a good player and I understand why it was done. Getting Cam into the league successfully was the most important thing. One contract is not a backbreaker.

Well, I absolutely love D-Will, but when I heard how much he was paid I was like, "Wow...Are you serious?" But, I figured that at least it wasn't like when I heard about Jake's last extension: I saw red and screamed "What the phuck!"

D-Will has been a stand-up guy on and off the field, and if the Colts can do Manning a solid by paying him for nothing last year, we can grin and bear paying D-Will what amounts to a loyalty bonus. The team is young and the FO is now making smart decisions. There are guys who will outproduce their contracts, so the overall money-production ratio will balance out.

We'll get it worked out in the end. As long as J-Stew remains a Panther, I won't bust a gasket.

you don't agree it is more important to focus on passing/stopping the pass in a passing league.....than building a backfield?

You don't need to overspend/invest in a backfield to be balanced. B/c of the rule changes, the pass sets up the run now.

Giants? Giants have focused on passing/stopping the pass recently. They just won a Superbowl with a decent RB running on a broken foot and that basketcase Jacobs.

if you are spending money on 2 first round draft picks at RB.....then you are easily going to be talking about a team with lots of glaring holes at more important positions in today's NFL.

I think you need a balanced attack and you need to either match your system to the players you have or decide on a system and then pick only players that match the system. Our offensive attack with Newton is an option oriented spread attack which requires good passing and good running attacks. If that changes and Cam excels as a oure passer as he matures then we need to adjust the offense as we go.

The emphasis on pass versus run and stoppin the pass versus stopping the run is overblown at times. Unless the rules have changed the only thing that matters is scoring more points each week than your opponent and it doesn't really matter how you do it.

Yes, you need balance. Williams' deal has nothing to do with balance.

Cam+Stewart+ young cheap RB who fits scheme is as better rushing attack than almost every team in the NFL would have.

Rules have changed and it is easier to produce in the air...which means you need better defensive talent since the rules handicap them

FA so far.

All WR's and CB's are long gone because it is now a passing league

All RB's are still sitting around waiting to get signed because again, passing league.

But here in Panther land, we still don't get it. We want to invest three times the amount of money the rest of the league is spending in a stable of RB's that we won't use. Stupid.

It's one of my many beefs with Hurney. Overvaluation of the RB position in todays NFL.
