More dwill contract rant

So that is key!! If you average 3.8 yards on the ground and 6.0 yards a play overall you win the Superbowl but if you average 5.4 yards on the ground and 6.2 yards a play like we did then you will go 6-10. Why do I think there is more to it than that???

There is...it's called DLineman. Lots of them.

imagine those same contract numbers invested in a great DE or a corner you can leave in single coverage. Free agent DEs like Mario Williams are getting $100 million dollar contracts, corners are getting $50 million. Play the numbers to your advantage, pay for linebackers and running backs in FA because they don't cost nearly as much and save the early rounds of the draft for the critical positions.

this is partly why I don't want us picking DeCastro so we can extend him for like $60 mil to play guard in 4 years

our 9th pick, whomever it may be, is going to cost roughly 13 mil, and most of it is going to be guaranteed. I'd rather invest it in a guy that can be just as productive as Mario Williams (Coples) than a guy who plays yet another relatively insignificant position

Truth is whoever you pick up at number 9 is going to cost you a ton if they are productive when their rookie contract is done. But you are right that if you don't want to spend a ton of money in free agency for your defensive line or corners you have to get them in the draft. It is a shame we only have 1 first rounder this year. We could use 3 or 4.

I keep reading that the most popular opinion against williams and his contract, is he share the load.

What a weak ass soap box to stand on.

Receivers get paid more for less touches per game, and they aren't involved in qb protection as part of their job description.

Ya pay play makers. D wlll is a play maker. Ya pay him regardless if he touches the ball 30 times a game, or zero, cause he's on injured reserve.

Ya can't pay quality play makers based on how many touches they get a game.

Oh.........................

then nevermind...................................

:)

This is why I made an effort not to mention Hurney specifically in this thread

the "core" players thing originates with Richardson

this is much different than what the prevailing mentality used to argue Richardson as a good owner in that he is or was a "hands-off" owner, much unlike __insert_interloping_owner_of_bad_team.

you bitches watch our top five offense at all last year? i'm perfectly happy paying the playmakers on it. d-will is a playmaker.

defense is fixable. rivera's trimming leftover fat from the fox era and loading the team with new talent that fits his schemes and overall philosophy.

pop open a box of tampons and just enjoy the ride. there's nothing else you can do anyway.
