More dwill contract rant

I think most Panther fans think it was too much, but I think too many other panther fans want to harp on the contract forever like it is killing the franchise. It's not.

when we're starting corners that are 5'8'' and our DTs are terrible at the same time, yea it kind of is hindering the franchise's progress

Dude, you brought up Reggie Nelson. If we wanted to sign him, we could do that today with some readjustment, restructuring BS. We just don't want to. There's nobody out there we really want to sign badly. If you have a problem with it, that's cool, but don't act like the Deangelo deal is gumming up the works and throwing the whole team off balance.

I can see why. Jacobs had 3.8 yards a carry last year and was so highly thought of they dumped him last week. Bradshaw- averaged 3.9. I would pay a lot more for a guy who averages 5.4 yards a carry over 2 guys who averaged less than 4.

I'll take 3.8 yards and a Superbowl any day of the week

all that future money is being corralled for Jonathan Stewart's "38 million dollar contract extension for a consistent 700 yard rusher" contract, but we don't care to invest in a safety that can cover

only in a homer's world does this make sense

Haha, yeah that'll be awesome. Look I've said and will continue to say that of the big moves we made last offseason the only one people bring up again and again is the Deangelo deal and use it to illustrate everything they hate about the front office. I love it's seen as a commitment to losing, dinosaur football even though we ran one of the most innovative offensive attacks in the league this year and made a legitimate pro-bowler out of a rookie QB.

Was the Deangelo deal too much? Yeah, I feel that way. But the front office probably thought we would have to run an excessive amount to protect Cam and there was no way to do that without Deangelo. And there was no way to keep Deangelo without paying a lot.

I am more excited by the fact that they got Cam into to camp and said "to hell with that the kid can play" and let him throw it excessively instead of sticking to the original plan at the cost of making one of their deals look stupid. Could we have featured Deangelo more and made it look better? Sure, I'm sure just a 1000 yards rushing would have shut a lot of people up, but they did the best for the team anyway. And that shows a front office and coaching staff that seems pretty intelligent.

yea and look how much their unproductive backfield set the team back this year

you're paying a lot more for positions that are essentially obsolete when it comes to building a winner

They passed for 4734 and rushed for 1427 yards on 1028 plays for 6 yard a play.

We passed for 3829 and rushed for 2408 on 992 plays for a 6.2 yards a play.

When you look at the offensive side of the ball for the Panthers last year- Wharton, Kalil and Gross cost more than Newton, Williams, Stewart, Smith, Shockey combined. And we were going to pay them whether we ran or threw. The running backs were not where the big bucks went, it is the offensive line.

Your contention that we are paying too much for an obsolete part of our game isn't true.

Now if you had said we way overspent on the defensive side of the ball last year for poor results then I could agree.

If you look on the defensive side- Gamble, Johnson and Beason alone accounted for almost 1/5 of the cap. And the defense being banged up and on IR is why we struggled last year. The Giants got a lot more production than we did on the defensive side of the ball.

But he woulda gone somewhere else and we would have been stuck with a cheaper and more able RB in his place. We couldnt have that....hes a super nice guy

Who knows if Stewart carries an extra 150 carries, he doesn't get hurt?? Or do you think we had anyone else to pick up the load.

So that is key!! If you average 3.8 yards on the ground and 6.0 yards a play overall you win the Superbowl but if you average 5.4 yards on the ground and 6.2 yards a play like we did then you will go 6-10. Why do I think there is more to it than that???
