to the disgruntled Panther fans

Recommended Posts

I've been a Panthers fan for almost 10 years now so I'm used to quiet free agency periods. I have a few comments to make about all of the people throwing temper tantrums.

Anyone who thought we were actually going to sign Mario Williams is a complete fuging moron who has no clue about how the NFL actually functions. Besides the fact that we don't have the cap room, you must not have been a fan of us for very long because it's well known that we build through the draft and not free agency. I'm convinced that people throwing a fit are fair weather fans or people who are only here because of Cam. The Carolina Panther's way of doing things is the proven best way. Dallas, Tampa, and Washington can spend all the money they want and it never does them any good at all. Teams like us, Patriots, Giants, Ravens, Packers, and Steelers all build through the draft and those are the teams that have the most success.

So GTFO and go back to the team you bandwagoned before Cam was here if you don't like the way things are done.

There is so much wrong with the post it's laughable, and then to compare or put the panthers in the same group as the Patriots, Giants, Ravens, Packers, and Steelers. Why not throw Jags in there also, they use that winning formula .

The Panthers are not making any large FA signings. Let me try and explain a couple of reasons why for those of you who think the sky is falling.

A. Spending large amounts in FA is a recipe for disaster. On the positive side, you are getting a player who has proven himself in the NFL, but, you are also paying much more for a player who is most likely reaching the middle/end of their career and competing with other NFL for high caliber FA’s will no doubt drive the price up. With certain franchises willing to drastically overpay for the top talent, it is a better strategy to allow those teams to max their spending limits early and find talent that might be overlooked.

B. Our team is relatively young. If you think about the positions we would be targeting in FA, we also have young talented players already in the mix at most of those positions. Why would we bring in an older veteran player to compete with the youth we have already established. Especially when you consider that our couching staff is entering their second year and did not have a full offseason to work with the young players. I expect big improvement out of Fua, Bell, Hogan, Kearse, Keiser, McClain, Stanford and numerous other 2nd year players who will have a full offseason of weight training, conditioning, and learning the system

C. It is hard to bring in a veteran player at a position where we have players coming off injuries. If we brought in a veteran replacement and the injured player recovers fully from his ailment, we have wasted cap space. Don’t forget that we finished the season with 18 players on IR. The most notable being Beason, Davis, Edwards, Gettis, Otah, Goodson, and numerous others.

TLDR: We are not entering the FA bidding market because: FA’s cost more than they are worth due to overspending franchises, our team is young and entering their 2nd year under a new coaching staff with no offseason training last year, we have 18 players coming off injury who need to be evaluated.

you dat dude from moneyball?

As i posted yesterday until the middle tier guys start signing with teams like the Antonio Gurays and Tracy Porters i'm not yet worried. If some of those guys start coming off the board and the Panthers are still bringing in nobodies than ill be worrisome.

And it begins..

Saints cornerback Tracy Porter is visiting the Bengals today, and also talking with the Raiders and Saints.

I swear I wonder if some of you even pay attention.

Do you recall us having one of the lowest cap numbers in the nfl a few years ago. To the point S Pin got on a Jerrys cheap run?

Do you remember the "Splashes" we made last year in resigning the "core" of our 2-14 team to the toon of now being pressed to the cap?

I dont get the magically Hurney talk either, the guy is terrible at his job. He was fortunate to fall into :cam: otherwise we would be picking first again.

Since softli left this teams drafting department we have been medicore at best. If you think we will magically improve our defense in the draft and free agency your fooling yourself. This year too will hinge all on mister :cam:

Has anyone ever asked themselves where is all the talent to justify us being one of the three highest pay rolls year in and year out (with the exception of uncapped year)

Stopp spewwing homerism and gain some reality. This team is not managed well and truely has not had a good drafting year since Jenkins and Smith years.

Yes Mario(Or other high price fa's) would not magically fix this defense, but neither is standing pat.. or cutting the wrong kicker (not saying much)..........

Get ready for patch work and :cam: cause thats what we are.........

The truth is, all you need to win, is having a great QB. I notice people keep saying the good teams build through the draft, but those same teams we keep pointing out all have top 10-15 QBs. NE has Tom Brady, PIT has Big Ben, Packers have A-rod, and now we have Cam Newton. So naturally as Cam grows, we will be like those teams.

Yep, I wanted Mario, not ashamed about that one bit.:D (Not only is he one of the best DEs in the league, he's also a native) I was hoping we could make some quick cap space by restructuring a few contracts, extend a few guys and so on. Yet, we didn't do nearly as much as I was hoping. It stinks, but I'll have to move on.

    • We can't afford to reach for one of the first round QBs this year. I would love for nothing more than Bryce to be the reason we don't even scout the bastards
