Um, yeah, it boils down to our cap space. Sorry, but we don't have much to spend, thus we *can't* sign proven free agents.

But that's OK, because of the injured players coming back, and our own proven veterans, along with the upcoming draft and players being cut, we will add some depth and find a gem or two hopefully.

I am not so sure it is about our lack of cap space. Our NFL front office has been historically very good about manipulating the current contracts and cap management.

If we were 30 million under, do you think we would have brought in any of the top tier FA's? Most likely not. That is the way of the Panthers and one of the reasons I love this team. I agree with their strategy. The second we pay Mario Williams 100+ million dollars when he has never done anything for our Franchise is the second I question the intelligence of our front office.

You pay players for their performance on their initial contracts. You reward those individuals who have been performing for you. Not some DE with no team loyalty trying to sell his services to the highest bidder. At least that is my opinion. I like the way our team does business.

I've seen multiple people here say that they want Mario Williams come "home" to us.

So what if they did....do you think you are the only one whos opinion counts? People can can have an opinion on how best to build the team and still be fans just like 1/2 the fans always want us to draft a wr with our 1st pick are still good fans.

I'm not worried yet because I think we will bring in some solid guys at the lower end of the pay scale, but if we don't have solid alternatives to TD and Otah going into this season we can't just blame bad luck anymore.

If we can address our current situation at CB and safety, it will be a huge improvement from last year. Especially playing in the NFC South where every team has a vertical offense.

I agree with others that we just don't have the cap space, and just don't have the money to pull the trigger on anybody.

With that said, I disagree with the idea of not using free agency to build. Yes it's totally insane to blow up FA like the Skins, and just throw money around. I understand that we have had some bombs in the past, and our track record with FA's hasnt been great, but building solely through the draft takes ALOT of time, 3-5 years if we are being reasonable, add to that folks that want to win now and you get these posts. I think if used to fill certain needs that standout(and just look at the roster as of today, we need a ton of special teams and defensive help), I think we all can agree that we have a ton of needs and some that arent gonna be cured strictly through the draft.

And while Im at it, ill probably get flamed for this but here goes- Im a Panthers fan, I will pull for them no matter what, and Im tired of hearing we want to run things like the Steelers. We aren't the Steelers, Patriots, Skins... I dont care how the Steelers run their team, we have been around long enough that we need our own identity. Let's run things like the Panthers. I would like to see a team that builds through the draft and utilizes FA's to better the team, period.

We have actually done quite well with FA in the past ex Jake, S Davis, Lucas, Moose,Shockey etc ....
