Panthers interested in Safety Steve Gregory

This is just stupid.

So what then? You think Hurney signed him without Rivera's input?

Or do you think Rivera did give his input and he and Hurney just signed him out of pity?

Or do you think Rivera, as the former defensive coordinator of the #1 defense in the NFL, knows a little about defense and wanted the guy?

Any other options I've missed?

LMFAO you do realize that this is the same Writers that said we needed WRs this year as well. I dont know if I would draw my whole opinion about our team with a bunch of guys who have no clue about our team and just cherry picked stats. Still whatever floats your boat.

Missed tackles are missed tackles. I don't see how Godfrey's missed tackle count is comparable with believing WR corp needs a #2 WR.

I mean you don't need PFF to make an argument Godfrey struggles with runners in the open field....he has a career backing that up.

So you are saying Godfrey is a good tackler? Don't confuse being able to lay the wood on occasion means you can tackle well in the NFL. Also, don't confuse getting credited w/ tackles made = good.

Yes, you completely missed Option #4.

Option #4.....anything remotely coming close to an intelligent post.

Because Options #1 through #3 are beyond comical.

Dude, love your sig, but...

I'm totally agree. We're at a point where the division is ours for the taking. Atlanta is still trying to figure out their identity and the Aints are in total disarray, having one of the worst offseasons in recent memory.

The Bucs signings seem to be definitely putting pressure onto Hurney and the group. While they're vastly improving,

Don't put the cart before the horse. They haven't done anything yet but sign some players. Signing players, even so-called "good" ones and "vastly improving" are not synonymous. See "2011 Philadelphia Eagles" for more info.

we're bringing in guys to bolster the special teams, which can be easily done through the draft if you have a special teams coordinator who knows what the hell is going on (and I'm not sure Brian Murphy does...)

Sorry, but there are very few...and I mean VERY few rookies who can outperform a seasoned st vet. Experience is a huge factor on st.

If I was the Panthers, I would let it leak that we're at least talking to a huge name free agent, just to quell the frantic fans. Even if it wasn't true, it'd be enough to calm people down, let them breathe, and take some pressure away from the front office.

A. The panthers are not really worried about quellings any "frantic fans."

2. They have a plan. Relax. Watch the tourney. Best 4 weeks of the year. ;)

RIVERA is plain STUPID with all his stupid chargers players.

if you going to do it do it like how rex ryan brought in bart scott or etc.

who the hell is this gregory guy. at least look at jim leonard or reggie nelson.

we are turning into the freakin carolina charger. damn you rivera. damn you legudu nanneee

Rivera brings in players he knows. He knows how they work, how they practice, how they are in the locker room. Bringing in Mario might be good for newspapers and may be great for the team, but there's honestly no way to know exactly what would happen. He could be a total cancer in the locker room for all anyone knows. At least bringing in inexpensive talent that Rivera knows isn't going to implode the team or hogtie the FO to a loaded contract for a bust, e.g. Sean Gilbert...a deal, btw, which I think probably haunts the big Cat and has since made him gunshy about signing big name FAs to fat contracts.

IOW, Rivera is a professional football coach, knows WAY more than you, or anyone else on this board, about how to put together a football team (especially a defense). He's been involved in the NFL for a little while and has learned a thing or two.

lol this is why you have a pro-scouting department

sometimes it's as if we don't even have one. hurney looks almost exclusively at signing only players from the panthers. rivera only wants to go after charger players. what the hell does our pro scouting department do? f**k if i know

we spent more $$$ in FA than any other team last year and our biggest outside acquisition? olindo mare. i wonder how these people still have jobs sometimes

There's quite a difference in scouting a player and knowing him. Like I said, Rivera knows these guys...how they are in the locker room and on the practice field with their teammates. Scouts can tell you 40 times and whether the guy has a devastating first step or swim move, but they don't know their personalities, qirks, et. al., but even if they do know that stuff, they cannot tell you how they will interact with the current players because they don't spend days and nights with them. Chemistry is huge and Rivera knows this.

yeah, good scouts can determine all that. skill level as well as personality, work ethic, leadership, ect. and actually in many cases can do so better than coaches that have worked closely with them

rivera spends nights with his players?

not sure i want to know what they're doing. hopefully they have separate beds.
