The Claiborne Watch

With Kansas City signing Peyton Hillis, I think Cleveland is a lock to take Richardson. Then you've got Tampa taking Blackmon at 5 as the BPA and also since they signed Wright. St. Louis at 6 won't need him as they signed Finnegan so they'll probably take Reiff or maybe a DE. Given Flynn goes to Seattle or Cleveland, Miami will for sure take Tannehill at 8.

Florio is reporting that the Browns have re-signed cornerback Dimitri Patterson to a three-year, $16 million contract.
browns could trade up to take tannehill if they take richardson with that first pick.

For those of you that dont think a corner will drop. What % of impact do you think a corner has on a game compared to a DE, DT, QB, RB, LB. Do you really think that the best corner in the world can effect a game as much as the best in world at those other positions? That is what I think Im hearing.

Starting with a new team. . you would rather have Revis/Aso instead of Peyton Manning, AP, Super Mario, Patrick Willis, or Suh?

Yeeeeeeeah no

Bucs would be foolish to let barber influence anything they do in the draft. He's got one foot out of the NFL already and last i checked teams need 2 corners. I imagine as soon as he falls out of the top 5 some cb hungry team trades up to snag him from falling to us.

Its not like they wont take CB at some point but they dont have a immediate need like RB and DT.

Yes and thats why people are paying more and more for CBs. In a passing league you need a CB that can lock down a side. Revis can lock down one side for the jets so they can use multiple blitzes and coverage schemes and not have to worry about coverage. Think if a team could lock down both sides of the field. That could be us if we can get a tandem of Claiborn/Kirkpatrick, Gamble, and Capt. Spread attacks would be useless and they would have pressure at all times.

I know passing has become more important, but the ball is still snapped at the line and the other 5 positions can effect every play where as a corner is really only effective on passing plays. Yes you can run blitzes but youre not going to do that on every play obviously.

Whats more important is that there truly is no such thing as a shut down corner. Revis will still get burned by 89, Megatron and the some other greats. Corner has gotten more important, but the game still is impacted by other positions more imo.

I think if Claiborne is there we have to take him. None of the DTs are separating themselves from the others. I've watch 7 Alabama games last season and Claiborne is exactly what I need. Having a good corner opposite of Gamble would be enough to help out the pass rush alone.

So Kirkpatrick?

Top level corners are a commodity in this lg, there are only a handful and i would say taking one side of the field away is pretty dominant, while other than QB, those other positions can be game planned around.

Right. The most dominant DT's, DE's and LB's aren't effective when quarterbacks can quickly dump it off because we can't cover(Munnerlyn).
