Delhomme has new deal

I don't see one place where you give a better option / better QB we could have signed instead.

 typical answer.

that's not my job, and no answer i could give you will satisfy you. Especially when people grossly augment Delhomme's ability in the first place, then people are going to argue that a person arguably better "wouldn't be a good fit".

I guess our best option is a QB who fugs up in playoff games.

Well I'm no GM but this is how I think it works:

Delhomme was guaranteed 11 million for this up coming season.

So now with his restructured contract he is guaranteed 20 million.

So essentially we signed Delhomme to a 4 year deal with 8 million guaranteed.

Sounds pretty smart, and with Marty Hurney a person I'm sure is much more experienced than anyone hear making the deals I have faith.

Like someone said just a few posts back, Marty Hurney has struck out wildly in the past. It's a lame argument to say that we shouldn't voice our concerns with what the team's doing just because we don't work in the FO.

I'm collecting an archive of threads from this offseason and I can't wait to post excerpts from them after we go 6-10 next season and Jake has his worst year ever.

Some of you people will have to leave the Huddle permanently in shame.

So much drama, wow.

You....did read the posts where I said that Jeff Garcia would be a bad fit here and that I desperately would rather look like an idiot and have the Panthers win the Super Bowl and the alternative right?

Were you intending to reply to me? Because I've said the opposite of everything you just accused me of saying.

Why don't you tell me any kind if alternate way to interpret the post of yours that I included above, especially the bold? The Garcia part was addressed to Vagrant, maybe you missed that. Imagine the laugh I am getting right now with YOU accusing me of drama. hehe.

What's the problem with the post? I'm going to be pretty happy rubbing it in everyone's faces that I was right, but I'm going to be much happier if I'm wrong. I'm someone that always looks for silver linings in things.

There, I clarified. Hope that's satisfying.

We also have the REASON our DC and several other D coaches walked...and no, he does not seem primed to change at all! Insanity was once defined as doing the same thing over and over and expecting a different result - Fox's picture is beside that definition!

Can't really argue with that, I agree with most of it.

Maybe Fox will finally stop being so conservative, and trust/allow Meeks to do his thing.(not banking on it though)

Hell man could you imagine our offense if we actually used screens?

49-30 record as starter. Okay, but Rex Grossman had a 19-11 record as starter as well. Doesn't make him any better of a QB option..

Most of your points have merit and I'm not trying to make this a pissing contest....but this isn't the first time I've heard the argument for Rex Grossman's record as a starter. Can you honestly tell me that Jake ever had a defense that played as well as the Bears defense/special teams in 2006 when they went to the Superbowl? 2003 had a good defense, that played its best playoff game against an extremely banged up Philly team.

Before everyone jumps in and throws the dreaded Jake lover abbreviation acronym at me, I do think the guaranteed money was about 40% higher than I thought it was going to be (or should have been).

Right the extension was needed/expected, but wow the amount is way too much.

Thanks for your composure. It is much appreciated.

The panthers' 2005 defense was actually better than Grossman's bears defense in yardage per game, and only allowed 20 more points in the regular season. Our special teams that year were pretty damn good as well (not nearly as good as the Bears' tho, but FWIW Smitty was returning punts in 2005)

OK, so basically, in the post I originally quoted, you forgot to write that part? 'Cuz that's not even implied in that post let alone stated.

FWIW, I have never seen one post of yours that I have interpreted as having any inklings of a silver lining...but whatev.

I agree that the 2005 defense, other than getting off the effing field on third down, was their best in the Fox era and they also created a bunch of turnovers which helped the offense be efficient in scoring which was HUGE because the run game was total ish. The ST also helped with the scoring efficiency.

    • With a night to sleep on it I'm now firmly of the opinion that we keep letting Bryce improve the rest of the season and enter next years camp with 2 new additions to the QB room. One being a new veteran and the other being another rookie QB we can bring along slowly. If Bryce's ceiling is game manager so be it. In that instance it will be majorly beneficial to the team as a whole to have another QB waiting in the wings and use the other as trade bait. But we've got to be smart about this and think ahead. I cannot stress enough that we cannot again sit on our hands with the most important position. Meanwhile we've also been continuing to build up the rest of the roster in the meantime. Then maybe we will be ready to compete for the division and a playoff spot. That is the best path forward for this franchise given where we are and the mistakes we've made that should serve as a learning tool of what not to do.
