Delhomme has new deal

A hard schedule shouldn't stop a good team from doing anything, well find out what we are.

With the same team we went 12-4, losing only 4 games to teams with a REAL winning schedule and then got embarrassed in the playoffs, partly due to a coach who refused to pressue the QB and allowed the opposing team's WR to dictate coverage.

You REALLY think waiting 1 off-season in which we only add some back-ups is going to tell us much than we already know about the team AND coaches?

okay not trying to start nemore arguments or take any sides. but im juss curious. can anyone make any valid points for why this isnt a good move to extend jake for about 3 more years. (cause in reality thats all it will be cause its 20 million guaranteed.) besides the cardinals game or the fact that hes 34.....?

**not in order of importance**

-Last two playoff games (8 interceptions, 1 fumble lost) for a lukewarm 30.1 QB rating

-inconsistency

-bionic elbow

- 49-30 record as starter. Okay, but Rex Grossman had a 19-11 record as starter as well. Doesn't make him any better of a QB option.

-only reason Carolina has never won with out him is because of lack of investment (Chris Weinke, David Carr, Rodney Peete, etc). I'll give that notion some cred if somehow we got a respectable QB who did worse than Delhomme.

-There WERE other ways you could clear cap space. Especially if you needed 2 million.

-shows that "commitment" to "your guy" is more important than accountability on this team. Nothing says it louder than extending a QB who just blew up in the playoffs just 3 months ago who's past his prime than that gesture.

-No other GM in their right mind would pull off above deal.

-No team has ever given 5 years and not nearly as much money as we're paying for a mid-thirties QB.

-yes he inspires his team, but we act like he's the only fuging QB in the history of organized football that could've ever done that. It's not his personality that is the problem it's his ability on the field.

-Comparing his to Matt Ryan's playoff blunder is just fuging retarded. Matt Ryan wasn't riding the fuging pine his first year like Delhomme was, as far as I'm concerned, he's miles ahead of Delhomme, and the sky's the limit for him.

-This isn't the first awfully risky move they've made. (google "Dan morgan + contract extension" for reference)

-He has not come ANYWHERE NEAR 2003's superbowl berth despite peoples' constant assertions that he's a superbowl caliber QB.

I have never ever accused anyone here of not being a true fan of the team no matter how much I have EVER disagreed with them, no matter what names I have been called, etc. but if this isn't the very definition of someone who honestly takes more joy in being RIGHT than rooting for the team, I don't know what is.

It's sickening, to be honest. You're the only one who should be ashamed.

Vagrant:Jeff Garcia is NOT a fit for this offense. Have you seen how he plays when not in a WCO?

So much drama, wow.

You....did read the posts where I said that Jeff Garcia would be a bad fit here and that I desperately would rather look like an idiot and have the Panthers win the Super Bowl and the alternative right?

Were you intending to reply to me? Because I've said the opposite of everything you just accused me of saying.

I'm collecting an archive of threads from this offseason and I can't wait to post excerpts from them after we go 6-10 next season and Jake has his worst year ever.

Some of you people will have to leave the Huddle permanently in shame.

Post all the excerpts ya want. I got a few more important things to worry about than being shamed on a football message board. Knock yourself out. FYI.....your taking this a little too seriously.

Yes, heaven forbid the Panthers miss the playoffs but aren't bad enough for you to gloat. What a shame that would be.

Mediocrity would be the worst-case scenario. Bad enough to not matter, but not bad enough to get a better draft pick.

That's been the story of the Carolina Panthers franchise throughout the years though.

I don't see one place where you give a better option / better QB we could have signed instead.

Hey I win either way. Either the Panthers do well and I'll look dumb, but I'll be happily not caring or the Panthers will flop and I'll look like the genius I am.

Of course............they could always go the dreaded 7-9 or 8-8 again.:eek::eek::eek::eek::eek:

Correction - you already look dumb.

Regardless, each year is a new team.

We even have a new DC in case you missed that, methinks just maybe that changes things a bit.

Also I hope the new QB coach can do some things with our guys.

Plus last year's schedule was a cake walk, but our division was tough, maybe tougher than it will be this year.

You do have a point though, Fox has some HORRIBLE tendencies that he doesn't seem primed to change.

Well I'm no GM but this is how I think it works:

Delhomme was guaranteed 11 million for this up coming season.

So now with his restructured contract he is guaranteed 20 million.

So essentially we signed Delhomme to a 4 year deal with 8 million guaranteed.

Sounds pretty smart, and with Marty Hurney a person I'm sure is much more experienced than anyone hear making the deals I have faith.

We also have the REASON our DC and several other D coaches walked...and no, he does not seem primed to change at all! Insanity was once defined as doing the same thing over and over and expecting a different result - Fox's picture is beside that definition!
