John Clayton's writing this up for our news side and I'll come back with analysis here in just a bit. But Jake Delhomme has a new five-year, $42.5 million deal with the Panthers. Check back in 20 or 30 minutes.

Well this settles all the speculation. We are stuck with him for another 5 years.

About time . . . it's a great move for Jake and the team.

But it always comes back to one question. Who are you going to get, at a price the Panthers are willing to pay, that is better than Jake? An unproven rookie that will want big bucks or a veteran of 5 years or so who is no better and doesn't know the system? This was the right move for now.

The grim truth, unfortunately.

We might get a surprise and might have someone that's already on the roster right now. Who knows.

Ben ONLY has 3 more wins but 2 more rings...ouch

So how many more does Tom Brady have than Peyton Manning, broadly considered possibly the best QB of all time?...

Again, not posing Jake Delhomme, but not crucifying him either...

Bigdog-I don't think he has elite ability, I never did. It's always been the other stuff that makes him what he is, which is a guy his teammates believe in even now. I don't get why people discount that so much when it is well over half the battle of being a starting QB IMO.

I doubt most folks here consider him a top notcher, that would be stupid, (though some surely do). We're just saying that he is the QB of the team right now and there aren't any, (valid), options at the moment, which others with the hate cannot understand. I understand...

I'm reading thru this thread and Im shocked by the responses. Why are people surprised by this? This is par for the course. The Panthers front office is so arrogant and stubborn. LOL. Whats funny is they care more about proving their paying fans wrong than they do about winning a Super Bowl. As each year passes by, we keep looking more and more like just a newer version of the Atlanta Falcons. 40 years of mediocrity, poor management decisions, and losing before the fans finally wake up and demand a contender. Tisk, tisk.

Well, I guess it must be Pat White or nothing this year...

Well I tell you what, you just go ahead and quite supporting the Panthers. I bet they don't even notice. That way of logic doesn't even empress me, it has no validation at all. An 12-4 team is gonna get all kinds of support at the stadium, regardless of what you have to say today. So go on, leave, it's not gonna make a mark, trust me on this...

Since Hurney doesn't negotiate contracts, I really don't see hearing a lot of boos, since even your average fan knows this.

I'm not condoning Jake, but I'm not condemning him either. It's time to sober up, get real and consider the alternatives. I'm sure you'll understand after you actually calm down and think about it...

"It's time to sober up, get real and consider the alternatives."

When will you do the same? Cutler was a whiner etc.. according to the Jake supporters and we wont draft a QB. So what alternatives do we have?

Peppers money is whats screwing us here, not Jakes.

Some of you are just flat our ignorning that a majority of the fan base dont want Jake here, why do you think that does not matter?

We needed to do this deal -the average fan doesnt understand the buisness or contracts etc...fug all that talk. That logic is insulting. If people visit the website and watch the games every sunday they are not a casual fan. Jake has no trade value and is not feared by NFL teams period.

Stop supporting the Panthers, why would I do that? I want this team to move foward and succeed. With Jake here we will always be looked at as a team with potential, but not good enough to beat the best.

What I'm saying is that this thread is almost to 500 posts and you guys keep moaning and whining and even if you pull your dollars from the organization, it's not going to mean a damned thing, not a damned thing. It's not going to change anything. I'm happy that Jake was extended, but for the cap reasons, not necessarily because I want him as a QB, (personally, I think it's time for the Matt Moore experiment)...

Bitch and whine all you want. Your post was meant to say that you could acquire some power over the club and I responded to tell you to go ahead, it wouldn't mean a thing. That's all I was saying, I might not have done it right, but that's what I was saying. Feel free to attempt it, but it won't mean dick and you know it too...
