Tony Gonzalez To Atlanta

IRONY...

Criticizing a cap-strapped team for signing their starting QB to an extension because you don't understand how the salary cap works.

Okay, that's not really ironic - it's just pathetic.

Post in other thread...

Okay, let me try and explain this to you....if 20 mil of the 42.5 is guaranteed, that means it is essentially a signing bonus and does not count towards the cap, so 42.5 - 20 = 22.5 over 5 years as far as the cap is concerned. 22.5/5 = 4.5 million a year vs. 11 million a year. That means we gave Jake a contract he would accept which allowed us to free up 6.5 mil in cap space.

So yes, 20 mil is a cap move.

per espn. Going to be real fun stopping Ryan-Turner-White-Gonzalez twice a year.

I'm with you on this one.

Ditto, just not worth giving up a high draft pick for a guy that'll be around for a year or two.

It could possibly be 3 or 4 years.

knowledge..is priceless..

Yes it is, so let me impart some knowledge.

I am thinking that the Falcons have made this move because they are making a run at the Super Bowl. They probably have the perception that they have a realistic chance to get to the dance within the next couple of years. Right or wrong, they believe that Ryan is their guy---that basically saved their franchise from fading into oblivion due to the Vick fiasco. Roddy White has turned out to be gold, The Burner proved that he didn't get that name for nothing, and they also have an able #2 RB and WR. Much like us, their defense is questionable, but probably only needs a little tweaking to carry them through (as they see it).

And, the thing is, they may be right! Gonzalez and the Falcons will probably be a little problematic, not only for us, but the entire league. So to think that this trade means nothing in the grand scheme of things may not be exactly true.

Not sure I care for your delivery, but I do approve this message. Atlanta may be a force to be reckoned with this year. They are a pretty complete team, the Ryan experiment worked and adding Gonzalez has to help...

We did quite well against every TE last year.

We now have a very solid group of LBs who are fast and are finally in the right position, I think the "not able to cover a TE to save their lives" thing is a thing of the past. Now, stopping easy 10 yard outs and whatnots from a disgustingly soft zone or having a RB/OL totally maul the interior of our DL is a whole new can of worms.

Atlanta has improved a luxury position in what's essentially a spread the ball around offense while letting their defense fester OH GOD WE'RE DOOMED

Uhh because we got Tony that means our entire draft can go to defense since we now have no real offensive need.

Stack the box to stop Turner, and the rest of the peices will fall into place. Ryan may have been a rookie sensation, but I am not worried about him, and I am absolutely not worried about a 48 year old Tony Gonzalez, or whatever age he is at...

Yea good luck stacking the box with TonyG, White, Jenkins, Douglas, Norwood as weapons
